Suikoden 1:

Front: Victor (forced), Tir (forced), Sonya
Back: Cleo, Rubi, Eileen

Or

Front: Victor (forced), Tir (forced), Grenseal/Milich
Back: Cleo, Rubi, Tengaar

The first party has access to Pretty Girl Attack, but Sonya isn't quite as strong as either Milich or Grenseal and Tengaar will be stronger than Eileen in most games. I'd also switch Victor out of the party in a heartbeat if I could.

Note that the stat growth is based on ranges so characters will have different stats in different games (and the ranges are pretty wide).

I haven't played the second game recently and I can't remember what my party was when I originally played it.

I never could remember my S1 Party. It varied all the time, but I do remember having Tengaar(Awesome Magic power with Mother Earth Rune and LR weapon), Alen(Rage Rune and massive attack power and durability. Very tanky of the two knights), and Cleo(Day One Healer. High Magic second to Tengaar, she has Flowing Rune, and strong LR weapon).

For S2, Always had Wakaba. No matter what, Wakaba was on the Main Team for her high damage and speed.

Eilie has strong Magic skill and LR weapons.

Tengaar, same as S1 build, easily one of the top three magic users, and most useful magic party member(LR weapon helps).

Pesmerga is a HUGE Tank, with Killer, Double-beat, and Counter Runes.

Viktor. He's a must.
