You have no idea if it flopped yet LMAO. It will be selling for years on Steam. It's not 1994 anymore, bruh. Initial week sales mean nothing in a decades-long selling cycle.
Also Eiyuden is not a flop. It plagues with bugs and stuffs (accurate translation vs not accurate, other stuffs). But its still a good game.
You write in the past tense like the game has been out for months and months. It's been six days!
My shingan allows me to see into the future, giving me uncanny insight.
Seeing so many studios being closed and/or projects being canceled across the gaming industry definitely has me thinking the game is dead. It was announced during a period of time in which the gaming industry was awash in funds and now there has been a severe contraction. I really, really hope I am wrong because it would be devastating to have it dangled in front of us and then taken away.
ECHH is a good game that is buried beneath slightly obnoxious stereotypical over the top anime crap-tier localization, a disheveled consistency with it's translated descriptions and terminology in the menus, and the gameplay seemingly does everything it can to get in your way and annoy you.
If it was 20+ years ago, I wouldn't care.
Now, I still don't care... but i can't excuse it just the same, when I'm pulling up the menu and need to tab the shoulder button over 2 screens to get into the equipment menu, and it's laggy or slow at times while cycling through them. Or the delay you run into when opening chests while your limited inventory bag is full. Or how you get your base after a few hours, and a half a dozen characters "join" your party and you take individual notifications for each one, splashing their character art on the screen, one at a time.
Tedious. The whole thing.
Suikoden 1 & 2 will get a pass from me no matter how clunky, it is what it is. Just like with Star Ocean 2R, which is arguably better than any of the modern retro HD-2D style games for me.
Pretty sure the game was already mostly funded due to kickstarter/gofundme or whatever they used for it.
From looking at player count and one or two other things compared to similar games, I'm guessing it's sold pretty well.
Not the best game in the world, I'm struggling with it in a few respects unfortunately, but given the above and the fact they've already green lit a sequel I'm confident it's far from a flop.
