I'll telephone Director Konami posthaste.

Likewise, though this is just my theory because you can't get an actual word out of either party, is that the only reason we get this Suikoden I & II version is BECAUSE it is not a simple port, hardly anything aside from the character sprites is the same. And the reason for that is most likely that Konami signed contracts with Sony that prohibit them from releasing the games in their exact form elsewhere. Everywhere everyone keeps yelling about Metal Gear Solid and Castelvania Symphony of the Night, the only reason Konami wouldn't rerelease the living hell out of the both of them, is because they can't.
Personally I would prefer to get a "simple port" (which is not always as simple as people think, there is no single button you push to just magically have it on another platform), or at least to get the option to switch between updated HD graphics and their original versions but I'm glad we get ANY version of it at all. Making significant changes to the original in any way is always going to be a bad choice, but sometimes the only possible one.
