You're right.
It's designed by the original Suikoden designer apparently; I don't think he actually works for the company making the game but Konami, being Konami, is probably going to try & screw him over like they did Kojima. So... Suikoden remaster to try & cause 'his' product to fail because... reasons.
Edit: Quote taken from the EC's web page:
"Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a JRPG from legendary game developers Yoshitaka Murayama’s (Suikoden I & II) and Junko Kawano (Suikoden I & IV) which takes the turn-based strategy game experience to the next level. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes features a finely crafted six-character battle system, meticulously created 2D sprites and 3D backgrounds, a riveting story with over 100 playable characters and engaging gameplay designed to bring players a modern take on classic JRPGs."
You're right.
It's the wrong game. Period.
The topic is misleading and on the wrong forum. People coming here are going to see it and be mislead. At worst, they'll have the wrong date. At best, they have their time wasted like I did by clicking into the topic and coming to the realization that it was a troll post. And it is.
There's no benefit to the topic. It's a troll post. If people are interested in Eiyuden Chronicles, they have their own forum.
If Konami thinks it can do damage, it's kinda mistaken. Konami's a pretty crap company these days, but I don't think they're gonna be able to have an impact.
Point is the trailers and gameplay from Chronicles doesn't look like anything special. Just another standard JRPG that doesn't really seem to be doing anything to make itself unique other than people spouting that it apes Suikoden II. It's basically using Suikoden II's name to push itself... Fun part is, those aren't the only people that worked on Suikoden II. Who knows how much those people actually had to do with the finished product that is Suikoden II. Can they make their own interesting game or not? Or are they just gonna carbon copy parts of it into their own spin off to get their studio going without much thought into crafting their own story and meaning behind that story?
I'll add that I feel this way because those of us getting Eiyuden Chronicles likely already have a copy coming to us anyways. The game already sold well.
I wouldn't even say it's nefarious on Konami's part at all. Maybe they just want to ride the hype train with Eiyuden Chronicle. There's enough room for two.
That's a good thing. Them seeing "hey we guess Suikoden IS popular" and rolling with that is a benefit for the consumer.
The conspiracy theory of them going "rawr how DARE they try and coattail off out old series we haven't done anything with in 15 years!!! We'll try and snipe them with this!" is just silly. Not only is it bad business, but as mentioned previously some of the people behind Eiyuden Chronicles including the 'big name' Murayama are actually being consultants on said remaster.
edit:
Up to you of course.
You do know that murayama was the writer and director for the original 2 games... they were basically his brainchild...
hes basically just making more with a new IP.
And just because you're the conductor doesn't mean there's not others pouring out a little bit of their knowledge/guidance into it as well.
Maybe there's more to it? I won't pick it up on release, and certainly don't see the comparison to Suikoden 1 and 2 aside from the sides and seasonings being somewhat familiar. I'd like to be wrong as more games to play like one of the games I consider as my all time must plays... but don't see it currently.
the marketing for suikoden wasnt particularly compelling either.
most only found out about it by either giving it a chance or being recommended it.
EC isnt out yet so we dont know how good it is. it might be better than suikoden it might be trash. we wont know till its out.
like with any game either try before you buy or see some gameplay and decide if its for you or not.
from what ive seen its pretty similar to suikoden. im not sure what people are expecting but i would argue it may do them good to temper their expectations.
