No, it's not Freeware in any way, shape or form.
Don't think there was much censored. The game has some rumors about changes surrounding it, such as being able to romance Ghosh, which simply aren't true.

That would probably be the absolute dawn of emulators, I think. I was playing an NES emulator sophomore year of high school, which was 1997-1998. And I wasn't the first, because I only knew they existed because I saw my buddy play the NES Final Fantasy III in Japanese in the school computer lab.
Um, what? Of course I know what a rom is, I mentioned emulators. Learn to read.
Well you seem to assume no one else knows about them, so it stands to reason you don't either.
