Minor spoiler
That at least in one point could make you loose a character because the choices given to you were indistinct from one another.
Now my opinion is that you can start playing the originals, and see if you find the overall story to be of interest to you, after you verify that you like it then I would suggest you stop.
the major reason is that these games are huge especially if you aim for the 100% clear (that at least in the character gathering aspect WILL affect the ending you'll get).
Then there is the fact that you can transfer your save from the first game to the second( the changes are minor but can be impactful depending on how much you enjoyed the story) so if for instance you decide to finish the first game on the original version and wait to play the second as a remaster that will mean your save from the original will obviously be useless...
Anyway the overall choice is yours.
I'll save you the suspense it's inferior in every way. Makes a cool collectible though.
To the OP: wait for this, Suiko 1 aged VERY BAD, to be honest it wasn't very good in the PSX era, I started with Suiko2 and when I played the first I already noticed the blatant difference.
While Suiko 2 aged well due it's amazing sprite work, the combat not, the magics are little fmv videos that LAGs a ton lol, by what we saw from the preview they remake it with proper effects.
And yet suikoden 1 pulled me in harder then suikoden 2. In my opinion Suikoden 1s gameplay was solid. Suikoden 2 did improve some things, but they changed a couple things that turned me off.
Agreed. Even when Suikoden 2 came out S1 felt so old. Especially that original artwork.
