His down "sword" attack can be used in midair, unlike Kirin which forces her to the ground. So he ends up with an extra option while in the air.
The uppercut is slightly different if used in the ground compared to the air.
His arc chain is also weaker than Kirin, so to do the most damage you cant rely on teleport damage since his non-locked on attacks are stronger. He cant tag the same enemy multiple times either, so it becomes a game of tag-teleporting once to refil his three feathers, then using non-locked on moves to do more damage.
Tagging also means you can shoot a stream of fire birds at an enemy as long as they're tagged, but this does minimal damage since you can only use it while locked-on.
He has "infinite" jumps as long as he has feathers. So without tagging, its 3. Air dashes also cost feathers.
He has fixed pulse special attacks. 3 of them are different specials he uses during his boss fights, and the last is a heal.
He doesnt have a full set of levels either, but what he gets is decent. Its the first 4 levels of the main game, one final level remix (which is kind of a spoiler?), and a new boss. The equipment he gets is also closer to something like D-nizer where you need to buy it instead of it being a random drop.
Can just be summarized as Azure Spirits left by Gunvolt and Moebius may be influenced by someone else of them. And Layla talks once. Kirin having a spirit is a good excuse for her to keep the arc chain in future games at least .
It ads one or two new questions for later, but thats about it in terms of main story. The chats are nice though.
They really should have added Zed to the Trial mode though.
Cause the mode is short, and doesnt elaborate much, but they could have also just not done anything at all. Epilogue really is just a small extra after the main story. Maybe they could have teased more but they probably dont want to reveal where gunvolt is after the main ending.
But as an epilogue it should have had a more exciting ending? It teases a bit but the conclusion felt a little rushed. Even though I get leaving things vague to tease whatever is next. Ads more questions but not as many as they could have?
There’s definitely something going on with Layla, since she attracts all the spirits immediately. And my guess is that those spirits are GV trying to communicate or something. Even Zed mentions not knowing what her deal is. Those weird Buddha statues in the tutorial level and the temple also got called out for not belonging, so that could lead to something.
We'll see next game, but considering 3's ending and this epilogue just ads more hints, I'd bet that the next game or a future game if they decide to follow gunvolt before going back to Kirin, will reference events from this game.
TLDR: I can count the number of characters from the previous games that I like on one hand.
"But what about the Zao plot thread from GV2?!" - MEH. A big MEH to that thread. I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about that plot twist. Perhaps he gave it to Layla? I honestly don't care.
For some reason people treat the stories of the previous games as great but in all honesty, Gunvolt never had a single good story. This game doesn't either, it just has the advantage of having a cast that I actually like for once.
At the end of the day, opinions are subjective, so people can complain all they want. This game has the best cast and gameplay and that's all that matters to me.
I still think 2s story is above 3s but even then it’s clear that the director of 2 viewed 2 as the end of the story while also leaving it open, which is odd. Quinn is also just so bland to where the intention of players understanding that GV has to accept losing Joule and getting paired with Quinn was just lost due to her just being so bland. Copen and his cast really carried a lot of 2.
In terms of the games I’d still rank it as 3>2>1>iX>iX2.
