World Adrift was close because of budget, servers to paid, SpatialOS price put them in bad position... A lot of "mmo" game close for this only reason : servers cost a lot.
We could see how much they're broken to announce World Adrift end in their last WA video.
Dont forget World Adrift was buy to play (and something like ONLY 15$ ?), so we could play without subscription on monthly paid server.
If you take a look, there is only few game who survive with buy to play option, GW2 & New World for exemple. GW2 still have monthly sub option and a cosmetic shop; New World have prime (wich give cosmectic) and cosmetic shop too.
I dont remember any cosmetic shop in World Adrift.
when WA launched a small part of me figured it'd die after a few years (as almost all indie MMOs do), but i still hoped it wouldn't.
alas, i was wrong.... but if this game doesn't perform well, you could still play it due to it being singleplayer.
and who knows, maybe if it's successful enough Worlds Adrift will be revived. Would love that.
I miss Worlds Adrift so badly it hurts.
Lost Skies feels like everything I wanted from WA, and none of the stuff I didn't.
I don't care what anyone says, I'm buying Lost Skies the MOMENT they let me pre-purchase.
And for everyone saying Bossa abandoned Worlds Adrift, you're mistaken. The physics-based server provider they depended on was just too expensive. And then Unity screwed them too, making it impossible to use that server, which put the final nail in the coffin. Bossa was just doomed, nothing they could have done.
There was a shop, i bought some stuff right before they annoced that they were canceling the game and i was just outside the refund period. So they took my $15 and another 30$ odd i spent on the shop. Iam salty ill buy this game again but IAM SALTY hahah
Exactly the same. I bought the extended version with artbook and soundtrack for Worlds Adrift and I'll do the same with this one. I'll also buy a fancy copy for any friend who would play it with me.
We've been grieving the loss of this world for YEARS.
To this day people are posting screenshots and videos on discord.
There are madmen out there who still try to reverse-engineer the original client.
We literally CRAVE this world.
We didn't need the SpatialOS features, we didn't need the dropped items to stay on the island till they're picked up. We didn't need the PvP, large group or otherwise.
We just needed to play a sky captain, drifting among the clouds, discovering treasure in abandoned temples and maybe encountering another human once every few hours if at all.
The VIBE was essential. It was for the first time in the history of gaming, that you've had a sky full of floating islands to discover and no terra firma below you. It's the fairy-tale art. It's the colors. It's the firefly lamp and the sail ship silently emerging from behind a mountain. The diesel punk machines, assembling your cockpit indicators, all of it.
If we get this vibe back, it's going to be a solid foundation on which Bossa can maybe build servers with support for bigger groups and maybe at some point transition that to an MMO. But at least we will get singleplayer, and that's really something priceless for all the souls lost with the skies.
Thanks guys :)
Seeing as they are making this a more insular experience I really hope they have some towns and people to come across now little more Skies of Arcadia style :D
