How to fix a destroyed ship?
Built my first ship, hit a tree and it was completely destroyed. Its a floating ball metal. Is there a way to repair or do I have to start over?

I forget if that's intentional design, but yeah, that probably calls for a new ship frame to be built, better than having to start a new character/world but still annoying.
failing that you could try zapping it with the green repair beam if you have one of those.(unlikely to help)
But hey, picking a parking spot is a learned skill, trees have all ways been the bane of both player and ship alike in this everything physics world.

You have to find a way to tow it back to a vacant Shipyard (typically involving grappling hook and Atlas Lifters), at which point it'll dock and prompt you if you wanna repair the hull.

There is a later tool you can get with research that allows you to repair parts away from the shipyard.

Do not use a Atlas Lifter... it will send your destroyed ship to the top of the map... currently grappled to it hoping I drop back down to the island.

if you build a new shipyard close enough it will dock and you can repair it.
