Lost Skies

The Grappling Hook is complex
Coming from Enshrouded (270h) with firm places of the grappling hook anchors.
Basically the trajectory of "you" dictates the momentum of the swing, nothing else.

I got to say sounds good on paper, but I fail to understand the CTRL, Space and the directional keys.

The grappling hook here is AMAZING.

First, you can grapple onto anything, which is rarely the case in most games. The rope is really long, which makes it very handy. And rarely do we have grapples in games where you can control rope length, usually it's "push button to rope in" and that's it.

Top that with movement being mostly accurate to physics, and we have the best grappling I've seern in... Well, I don't think i've seen better grappling, ever. They really nailed it.

So yeah, it's a bit complex to control it properly, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty dope :)

I agree, the grappling here is really nice. So much easier than worlds

It is definitely a high skill ceiling, but CTRL allows you to lengthen your cord, which can be good for rappeling down, and Space is a boost button. Pressing it at the high point of a swing can net you some extra height, or doing it at the apex to swing forward gives you more distance. Its kind of like the 3D maneuvring gear from Attack on Titan. Your WASD just let you influence your angle on the swing. Holding S can help you break if you're about to smack into a wall.
I love it, it's very forgiving. And the ragdoll physics are hilarious when I mistime and hit the ground or an obstacle. But it doesn't break the grapple or it'd be infuriating.

Best grapple hook I´ve ever come across in any game, just like it was in Worlds Adrift.
Takes a bit of practice, but will definitely be worth it, changing the keybindings might help.

About that, I wish I could bind extra mouse buttons, at all. Launcing the grapple with a thumb button would make it alot intuitive for me. Alas, keybinding needs some more work.

Still, I'm Spiderman-ing all around and I absolutely LOVE it. And I'm not even a Spiderman fan.
i have fun witht the grappling, and if you add the item you craft to go to the second island(or the other one for the same slot).
shoot a flying rock, and dash on one side and keep the button to reduce the rope, at a moment you will not touch the floor, and go to this rock, you can use this movement to catapult yourself in front, remove the grappling hook, and try to get an other rock far away in front and restart reduce the rope, you will make the same as the bottom of the letter U u u u u u u u and you can use the other tool to make you fly a little or reduce the fall speed.

the harder part for me is when i try to climb and catapult me on a mountain, i can't... but after get the grappin hook, flying with it to the start point is really funny, you need minimum 4 rock, or more if you are not very very good(it is normal to use 6 or more for the first try).

the grapplin hook is just a little hard at the start to understand, the time before our feet don't touch the floor, or sometimes we want more speed, but this speed can be reach if you shoot a rock very far away, and the time to reduce the rope can be long enough to get this speed, because at the start, the rock was far away.

sometime to climb a rock, i try to target the side of the rock, and run the same direction, and when i start to gp up, when i 'm at the level of the hook, i remove it to FALL on the land, but without damage because i roll on the floor, but that don't work all time, and sometime i fall near it.i need training...

We all do to some extent, it's only a demo that is a few ages old :)

But when you start to make it work, it feels right. Vey few games left me grinning like that for just moving around.
I didn't like that the grapple hook was used every time I activated the quickslot wheel to switch to something else. I'm also not sure if it was even mentioned how to open the wheel menu at all. I accidentally found it out by pressing several keys when suddenly the wheel popped up. That was super annoying.

Not sure what you call fogiving, I smacked my face on a wall a couple of times because I forgot to slow down. And that thing is all but forgiving on my hp bar.
But it is one of the better implementation of a grapple hook close to using real physics. Though this mechanic does indeed need some time learning and getting used to it. So you don't go splat now you are a pancake on the side of a rock. Or when reeling in you get stuck underneath the object you are grappling on.

And unlike a lot of other games that just have it as a gimmick, here it is useful. Nothing more rewarding to sling from rock to rock like Tarzan to travel between some parts on an island.

CTRL unravel the cord increasing the swing length, but you lose part of swing momentum (exaclty opposite of Shift). That helps climbing down from mountains and can prevent you from taking damage if you're about to faceplant into a wall. Longer swing takes more to accelerate, but propels you further.

Space force-pushes you in the direction of the line, releasing it. It can propel you forward and up on a good momentum or help you get over the ledge. The initial grappling hook is weak though, compared to pristine version you can unlock later, so Space isn't as strong as it ought to be.

Directional key simply sway you in the direction relative to the line. You can use them to build swing momentum, brake before hitting something or strafe away from monor obstacles.

Yeah, this game's overall character movement is not what you'd call streamlined - at first glance it's pretty clunky and unresponsive. But only at first glance - when you actually get used to it, understand it, it becomes your second nature. It's not your typical "AAA" kind of character control, where everything is done contextually and automatically, while you're just pressing the same button - it's rather something you have to learn and then master. And then Spiderman ain't got sh!t on you anymore.

Errm... I have a 5 button mouse and grapple launch is binded to a Mouse4 by default.
