The herald is confirmed not to be fightable in the demo unfortunately.
You can spawn him by starting a new game and killing any drone spawner. He'll do a scripted flyby before descending into the clouds and respawning, and is unaffected by cannon shells.
Are you sure about that? I saw him chilling around the cloud after the spawning scene in the beginning

What you found is that you triggered the scripted appearance of the herad, didn't do anything to it, and then it despawned because its cinematic introduction was over. But yeah, good work, shepherd.
