Two Worlds: How to Ride Horses Guide.
How to ride a Horse in Two Worlds!

Don't bother. Just don't.

There's a lot about this game I enjoyed, and some things that really irritated me. One such thing was Horse Riding. It's cumbersome, unintuitive and frustrating.

Problems:
Whistling for your Horse doesn't work. Unless you're practically standing right next to it anyway.
They refuse to go anywhere you tell them! They are coded to follow the terrain, and so won't go down slopes or over tiny rocks, even if none appear to be there.
They stay exactly where you left them, last. So if it rode halfway into a river of it's own accord? Good luck with that! Got stuck on a rock? Sucks to be you!
They can't turn without 4 weeks written notice. Try it. You'll see what I mean.
Fighting from Horseback isn't even funny. The Developer who "coded" this feature was having a laugh. At our expense.

There's also a Skill you can learn where you can pull enemies off their Horses when they attack you! Sounds amazing, right?

There are no enemies on horseback in the entire game. None.

Good luck!

*this "Guide" is mostly a rant about the Horse mechanics in the game. It's still a great game and I enjoyed it immensely. Just stay away from Dobbin!

WRONG

Certainly these guys have never been on a horseback for real.
Horses are no Motorcyles .... so
Advance slowly W-slow down S and turn a/s -and yes if you are too fast the horse will just STOP if an obstacle is there. They do this in real life too... so if you want to go up a hill or down: SLOW down - in real life the horse would be likly to stumble, break a leg, bury you under its body ... or just REFUSE to do anything ;-) . There are other Animals in there who are better "mountainclimbers" - with other disadvantages (speed, limited cargo weight)
if you get one whatch their feet. They are "Paarhufer" similar to goats... .
And call your horse with a whistle WORKS... but GRIP CHIMP is RIGHT. You have to be close to your horse. So remember where you left it... .

The radius of Turning is bigger if you are faster -

if you want to go faster just hit w - w- w .... don`t know how to say it in English Schritt- Trab- Galopp.

and Fighting from Horseback works too - you have to anticipade your speed- and have to remember that hitting takes time too- btw you have to click left mousbutton for left and right mousbutton for right hit. Or you had to move the mouse left / right. Can`t remember it - it`s been a while... . But it worked - speed of horse is relevant too- too fast and you hit nothing- too slow and you endanger yourself. Ever been poked from a spear? Give it a try!
If you get into it, then you are able to kill enemies stronger than you are.

BTW - it looks to me that noone reads the manuals anymore.

=> weapontype- riding skill/fight from horseback- speed -timing/anticipation - playerskill

Get to a river and tremble your enemies down!

PS: if you got stuck on a rock and THAT WILL HAPPEN - get off and call your horse
PSPS: Ever asked yourself why horsemen are in a disadvantage in woodlands?
PSPSPS: Choose the battleground if you have a chance! Riversites are good (no obstacles), Woodlands/Wilderness - poor choice

As long as you do not treat the horse as a modern vehicle, you are alright. It is not Mount&Blade quality, but it is not totally bad either.

The original post was just a comedy rant on a mechanic of the game I didn't enjoy. It's not to say it's unusable, just that I found it overly cumbersome.

Still, horses for courses, as they say.

I'm guessing it was a feature that never made the cut. Maybe it was too hard to get the AI to use them effectively?

The game's not poorer for their lack though, as it's still a good game overall. The Weapon/Armour upgrading system is still one of the most enjoyable I've played, since it encourages you to go shopping!

Ahh that's a thought. It'd make good practical sense in PvP.
I never played the multiplayer mode, so I couldn't say for sure.
