Why can't I start the game?
The startup crashes everytime I click on it. Im running windows 8.1 x64. I've tried re downloading, verifying and downloading many different drivers but nothing seems to work.

Here's to hoping you have Nvidia,

If you have NVIDIA, it's an easy fix. There's a driver that NVIDIA uses for older games, Legacy, which Two Worlds needs to start up.

Just won't start. Period. None of the fixes work, I have the Radeon and not the Nvidia for this laptop. Also checked for that file that was mentioned in another post. Nada. So..... game won't start. What now?

you dont need to have nvidea for that fix to work , anyone with ati can use it too . alot of games the issues are due to phys x driver problems making games not start , stupid steam should know all this stuff and post all these fixes but they dont , probably because tyhey have no idea what the hell they are doing cuz most these games they end up making updates and stops games from working lol

That seems to have worked. Applying the NVIDIA patch (even though my card is a Radeon) has resolved whatever the issue was and I am now in the game. Thanks for the suggestion and we'll see how well it keeps working!

Just want to make a note here for any AMD users (specifically the higher-end card holders) that this game works flawlessly with the default (non-compatability mode) at the highest presets at 1440p resolution. I am using 2x R9 290x's in Crossfire, though I would disable one as it is overkill for the game, has no Crossfire scalability (what gain?) and in general Crossfire on older games and games that do not support it tend to give you issues.

I just want to reiterate that you need to try downloading the nvidia physx patch if you have any problem at all with the game not starting.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.12.1031-legacy-driver.html

the patch changes some files that come with the game - doesn't have anything to do with if you have a nividia card or not (this is what first confused me).

The correct and fully working version of PhysX is included with the game, and should install by default on first launch. If for some reason it doesn't, you can find it in your games folder in the "installers" folder.

Should be:

%STEAM_LOCATION%\SteamApps\common\Two Worlds - Epic Edition\installers\PhysX_8.08.18_SystemSoftware.exe

By the way, it isn't a patch. :) Back when (NovodeX/Ageia era) PhysX was an SDK to handle well, physics. Later on nVidia grabbed it up and released extra software to enable far better graphical fidelity in games (cloth tearing, glass shattering, etc), but eventually dropped it as it was integrated into all modern cards sporting CUDA cores. Nowadays it is a thing of the past, and whether you have the software or not really doesn't matter. I haven't tried it yet as the game installed it automatically, but I would assume it would simply run on any modern GPU (due to the above explanation) without needing any PhysX software regardless of game code.
