Buy physical 1.0 copy then install 1.1 patch on it (get patch from patches-scrolls.com for example) or get pirated version from a torrent.

I wanted 1.6 version too (to get some mods to work), but sadly steam or gog version of game is 1.7 only without any possibilities to downgrade.

After buying it on steam I've downloaded 1.6 pirated version - I'm not feeling bad about this because I've bought the game so I should have a choice between game revisions.

What's the difference between 1.6 and 1.7?

If I remember right it just adds new multiplayer maps and makes some mods uncompatible with this version (many mods were created for 1.6 only because there was no SDK for 1.7/1.7b, only for 1.6)
