why is it so hard to level up

It's really not. For the first couple levels it's definitely slow. Once you get the 2nd map it goes fast if you do the Exorcism and get the ghost right, you get about 75 exp each time.

It's slow to start, but sorta exponential. Once you unlock the 2nd map and higher difficulties you'll start leveling much faster (and making money much more easily as well).

I agree with everyone in here grind for level 3, I honestly wouldn't bother buying anything but a candle for the 1st house objective. once you get level 3 and above you don't need a camera all at at this point. The other objectives for the other two maps don't require anything more than the basic equipment. 2nd House is the money house exorcising the ghost is so much easier than the first.
