There is no hiding at this stage of development. You just run and loop the ghost around furniture until the ghost gives up.
They just recently added crouching so you can tell they are working on hiding mechanics.
However, crouching has no purpose at this point either unless you want to T-bag your friend who died to the ghost.
The clear visual signs are that the vision gets grainy and the door to the front shuts and locks. You may also see the ghost flash into your vision quickly before it disappears and then comes back again to chase you. It's pretty obvious when you are being hunted compared to being messed with.
There are plenty of hiding spots. Example Abandon House - in the basement by the crib. Cyclone street - upstairs office closet. Hospital - when you first enter to the left there are room curtains. as well as upstairs. Also make sure your flashlight is off and you arent using any hunting equipment.
To answer the ops question, the signal a haunt is about to happen is the ghost growls, louder the closer you are to it when it begins, then lights and flashlight flicker and if you are by an exit the door will shut.
While not all ghosts play fair, revenant hunts just cuz it can and the gul can if you swear. there are a couple other as well. but hunts usually dont happen unless your sanity is below 80%, im not sure about on hard mode because i either die before checking my sanity or i get all the info and do everything else and leave.
Here is some advise I can give that helps me playing the game.
Until the bulbs burst, keep some lights on as a warning sign at locations like hallways leading to the ghost room because you will see them flicker especially at far distances.
If you're close to their ghost room they do make an audio cue (like a growl of sorts) before they start hunting giving you time to dip out.
Try not to sprint everywhere especially towards the ghost room because if you sprint towards the ghost room it can really be a deciding factor for you as you try to slowly walk away from the ghost hunting. Cardio was the #1 rule in Zombieland, it is the same rule in Demonology.
Considering there are only a few maps try to familiarize yourself with them because knowing where you are going and where certain loops are can be the different of you surviving a hunt.
If the ghost room is far away from the entrance, I will usually backpedal into the house to keep my eye on the front door as long as I possibly can because it can be a very good warning sign far from the room (where you will not hear the growl audio cue).
The biggest thing if you get the income for it is the crucifix. Once you have all of your items in the house/ghost room, always carry a crucifix on you.
Kind of a cheese tip here but you can do it especially if you're strapped for income. Unless they change it or stop you from doing it all together but you could instantly start a trial, guess a random ghost which triggers step 2 of the exorcism. Do the exorcism and get income from the exorcism with an extremely high chance of getting 30% less income because you guessed the wrong ghost. I don't recommend doing this on easy because you won't get much for it but go for it.
