Are you asking for the ability to join a friends game while you are currently in a active game investigation?
If that's what you are asking then I would have to say I don't think that's good for the game and I can't see why a developer would do that.
Players would die, disconnect and rejoin at full sanity like a new player joining,
Then other team mates could do this over and over until the ghost was figured out.
It would also eliminate the need for sanity pills and reduce the risk factor.
You can already join a private lobby just so your friends can join.
Once you join the game it should remain closed to any new people to join.
If someone was AFK or slow to join then they will just have to be ready for the next game or everyone in that current game can go tot he car and exit so the other person can join.
Consider it 4 slots, once one dies that slot is considered dead, so whoever joins it remains dead
