It depends more on the developers than anything, and what with the price of hardware/OS "upgrades" and the insistence of TPM in Win11, there's definitely a group of people sticking to Win7. This is an issue that actually spans back to before Win7 was EOL as well. After a little more research, this error is being caused by Zlib, and in all honesty, should the devs choose to add Win7 support with its concurrent function it shouldn't be all too difficult.
Funny thing is that the Zlib update that caused this isn't from Win10, its from Win8, at least as far as I can tell, so technically Demonologist should already be able to run on Win8 as it is, when its marked as minimum requirement: Win10, more because of EOLs Microsoft has put out instead of actual specs.
Get off of W7
W10/W11 will accept your W7 key.
Unreal Engine 5 itself doesn't run on Windows 7 either.
All in all I don't particularly care if Win10/11 will accept my key, they're less friendly to users or have literal physical spyware required to install. Altogether, if you wish to change then by all means do so, however you yelling at another to upgrade when supporting W7's KERNEL32.dll could be done if the devs decide to and your own opinions mean little in this chat thanks to it not being a solution is little more than a waste of both of our time. I am aware of the EOL on Steam as well, and have made preparations other than "upgrading" to another version of Windows.
The only thing I can say is that your name is oddly fitting since the "industry standard" has been molded more to fit Microsoft's corporate agendas versus actually providing a better service for consumers.
Please provide assistance if you have any, otherwise please leave this thread.
You're not getting any other support for this.
what you call "assistance" is little more than "accepting defeat". This game is in early access, and it's the devs choice if they do or don't add W7 support, not yours. You are hardly an official source, so in the end you're doing little more than blowing hot air around. Accept the "industry standard" of being robbed if you wish, I will still lobby for legacy support, something you seem ill equipped mentally to understand the importance or QOL implications of. Thank you for repeatedly wasting your time typing out defeatist responses, I will wait for a more official source.
The games engine itself does not even support the operating system you are foolishly still trying to use well past its expiration date.
They are not going to backpeddle the version of Unreal Engine or making a massive overhaul to the code base to support what is likely not even 10 people using Windows 7 on their game. All at the cost of the majority of their players using modern hardware.
Actually, it would be possible to reference the KERNEL32.dll from multiple OS versions on UE5, and considering your overall knowledge on computers, you have equally as little in game development or coding. It in fact IS their choice, and they don't have to "sacrifice" much more than some development time to support what is in fact more than ten users, all without sacrificing people like you who can't comprehend the fact that more OS versions supported equals more potential users. Did you know that W7 can support a 4090 GPU and an i9 processor? More than likely not since you assume that older OS users, for some insane reason, would decide not to upgrade their hardware.
Who is foolish, those who settle for less, or those who try for more? Aside from that I have already stated that I have made preparations in case these devs do not add W7 support, so your responses have been little more than entertainment for me, and affirmation that useless consumer level wannabe techs will always be the loudest group of individuals in this argument. I hope you genuinely have a wonderful day, you have made some interesting distractions for me.
Hmmm. Amnesia Rebirth runs on Windows 7. Voidtrain supports Win7.... Interesting that even more current games are still providing legacy support when you claim they gain nothing from it. Must be some other reason then I suppose, and by your logic, its foolishness only. Too bad that isn't how the world works.
Once again I'm not "ecpecting" them to do anything to me in particular, I have preparations for if they don't, which you seem unable to process, and instead have a need to beat a dead horse, and the decaying grammar and spelling is ever more entertaining.
Microsoft doesn't support it, sure, but plenty of devs do, even outside of gaming, thanks to Win7's superior UX, built in services, and compatibility.
Also it wasn't my goal to impress you. That would be foolish as you obviously have no basis for realistic expectations, and altogether I couldn't care less what your opinion is, which is precisely the only thing you're presenting, even forcing upon me, as a reason to abandon a concept I believe in. Might help if you believed in more than yourself.
Also your "FREE" upgrade is not as free as you think, changing to W10, by EULA jargon, would relinquish ownership of my PC to Microsoft, and W11 requires installation of TPM2.0, which can be used by malicious parties to not only track activity on a PC, but lock out programs, or even access to the PC itself.
Also I'm not sure if W7 has been "faced" out just yet, it has a while to go before that happens. Have fun when W12 is released and TPM requires you to start paying a monthly fee to access your physical device. I shall laugh on that day, almost as much as your lack of grammar has caused me jubilation today. Keep living your life how you see fit, I will do the same, and good luck.
Well, if I am a troll, then so be it, unsubscribe, your narrowminded opinions are unwelcome anyway, they do not assist, and they do not add up to anything more than a sickening ball of negativity.
Besides, you forget that Demonologist runs off of DX11 thanks in part to DX12 stability issues, meaning that it is already partially backwards compatible, and altogether adding a single library from a previous version of UE would not be altogether that difficult, in the grand scheme of things.
Good day to you, unbeliever and doubter of legacy support, your kind fuels the corporate machine that kills our dreams.
Have a wonderful day.
While windows 7 was a great platform in it's day, there are not a lot of companies who offer support for it anymore.
I'm also one who doesn't like to upgrade my software and hardware that much but slowly you will start getting more and more issues with various programs making life miserable. I'm sure you can probably get a windows upgrade free somewhere online.
Agreed, fully. I've been lucky so far and have gotten my way past a vast majority of "Unsupported" programs I wanted to use. I'm more holding out until a less malicious version of Windows comes out that doesn't require either probable spyware, or legally giving up ownership of my hardware. Truthfully I enjoy finagling these issues, so until I can move on with rights intact I will stand my ground. Luckily it seems support from general devs isn't over so I won't give up hope yet.
Thanks also for not being a hardheaded jackass. I suppose that's what I get for sticking my neck out, but people could at least have courtesy. They choose not to, sadly.
With any luck this'll be solved one way or another and I'll ride the wave downstream until I find a compromise.
