Anti-modding policy?
As a survival game in 2024 Nightingale was neglectfully designed without modding support in mind.

Sadly, as a result Nightingale has a very dismissive Anti-modding policy, which is out of time and pretty anti-consumer:
https://playnightingale.com/modding-policy/

Non-Permitted Modification:
Mods that affect the official servers or other players, are severely prohibited and may result in your player account being banned and unable to play the game.

Non-official servers are currently not planned. :steamsad:

Uch, mixed feelings about that, particulary as I love modding my games.

From most of my experience mods are not really that big issue. Take No Man's Sky - due to how it is made player population without mods is even able to mix with modding players. Conan Exiles? You are just able to play it as single player OR play it on modded servers.

This policy here... It makes me cautious about future monetization. I can't really think any other reason why it is worded like that.

Cheating should not be an issue when you play this game as single player. From every news available, so far I presumed that online element will be just additional thing.

It's online only.

Meaning no mods, ever.

It also means server wipes so no saved progress long term.

It also means there will be issues with cheating and hacking that will be unavoidable because you have no option to play offline/with friends.

well cheating should be fine as long you play on your own world. happens in every other similar game. this wont be the exception

Yeah? You keep saying the same thing. Basically 'soft' negativity. Have fun in a different game.

It also means the game is only a lease, not a permanent purchase. No servers, no game anymore.

I don't see what "anti-consumer" or "out of time" means here? It should be clear that this is primarily about mods that are also cheats! And no one wants that in an online game!

This game is currently at the beginning of its Early Access phase. Let's give the developers time, the private servers should come in the future and everyone can use "mods" there as much as they want!

Which means at whatever arbitrary point they decide to shut it down, you lose the game.

This ^ Devs have said multiple times private servers are on the list of things to come later, they just wanted to keep the servers in house for the start to have better tracking of issues and stability.

That policy states that modding that only affects the player is fine. You just can't use a mod that affects other players or the world. Being mad about that basically means you want ot affect other players with your mod

In the "Nightingale Early Access Launch FAQ" it says

"Q. Will you support community mods?
A. We won't be officially supporting community mods for the Early Access launch of the game, but this is something we hope to revisit throughout development. We talk more about it here: https://youtu.be/piDLsKXvcKg?t=312"

I understand that youre maybe still pretty young and have a lot to learn but EVERY mod that adds new mechanics affects OTHER PLAYERS. You know, that thingy called "mods".
