Can I Upgrade Building Materials?
I am wondering if you can upgrade building materials for your bases or if you have to take them apart and rebuild them with the new materials

so the fun fact about early access is that things can change a lot based on feedback.

even if you can do that it might not stay like that, even if you can't it may not stay that way.

when early access starts see if it does and then leave feedback

I understand how early works, thank you. I was simply asking if it is in the game in general. I wasn't bashing it or complaining, just asking a simple question. Since you didn't actually answer the question, I can assume you do not know the answer. Not sure why you responded to a question you don't know the answer to, but thanks anyway

What I saw was a builder tearing things down but they didn't try an in place upgrade. That will be one of the things I try right off. My fear is it's a tear down but will have to see.

Thank you. I hope so as well, but it is not a deal breaker for me. Just a quality of life improvement that I will request in feedback if its not there. Mostly it helps me keep things basic and as small as possible till I get the materials I actually want to craft with :) I will expand when I can use my desired crafting material

Curious about this as well.

You could not build over existing building pieces with an upgraded material like you can in many survival games, by memory anyway, there may have been a toggle or similar that i did not notice to replace it. In terms of upgrading through an alternate interface or tool, not sure but I did not notice anything. Tear down and rebuild seems to be the way but I could certainly be wrong.

Thank you for the reply. I am very eager to play this game when it comes out. I saw the good, the great, the needs help and the needs more help. It looks so awesome. It will one hell of a game to watch develop. Exciting

the game comes out in less than 24 hours and this question is going to take about an hour at most to answer.

furthermore i doubt your basing your purchasing on it.

during the stress test i was more interested in building the house than upgrading it and the stress test ended about 2 minutes after i finished the roof. i'm not sure i even had access to higher level building materials to upgrade with. i did see the recipes. they contained stuff like bricks which my stick and thatch hut couldn't make. it could be you need a special tool for upgrades, it could be you just build the place properly the first time. you'll KNOW tomorrow.

and if it doesn't do that it very well might do 30 minutes later because early access

Thank you. IT seems like the tear down method may be whats up tomorrow. Thats ok. I plan to play it anyway. I was mostly curious so I would know how to build early so I didn't give myself a bigger upgrade job than I have to when the later on in the game. I appreciate your reply though :)

Bro. Calm down. There is nothing wrong with someone asking a legit question like this. What's with the aggro? Yikes! :steamsalty:

the game just updated and has lost an entire system (hope) broken controller support and revised it's UI. asking what exists in an early access game before it's even in early access is essentially pointless. tomorrow it'll be playable, after that anything could happen

Great question!

I came here to ask the same thing.

Hopefully we can 'swap' pieces (upgraded or same tier but different material) without having to remove the piece first.

Wonder if there is stability.

I'd hate to remove a support beam in order to install a newer type of beam... only to have part of the roof cave in.

Not a deal breaker however it's designed to work as I'm going to play anyway, just curious.

I'll keep looking around for the answer.
Doombringer Feb 19, 2024 @ 9:15pm
Stability is certainly present, I had to put in a pillar to place some second story roof pieces etc. I did not try removing it to see what collapsed etc but I believe I saw someone removing walls with attached ceilings in a video and the ceiling were not floating once the wall was removed so it appears to all require support or it comes down.

You have to tear down and rebuild, from the bottom up, so if you want to replace a foundation you are going to have to pull down the walls connected to that piece of foundation.

You get around 50% resources back.

The building pieces are very primitive and a lot of things aren't great, like for example you can't see out of the Tudor or Desert windows.

Building is definitely a let down after Conan, ARK, Sons of the Forest etc etc.
