Opened portal to another realm continue to exist(using same cards to re-open again) even when it closes until you open a new one(different cards) .
This way it has a slight bit of different flavor while being another same-same?
First from a technological standpoint it allows smaller play areas that take up less resources at any given moment. This allows multiple single player shards on servers that are there at all times so you can play with others when you decide that is what you want and not when you don't want to.
For example If I want to hunt an Apex creature I can open a realm and (eventually) make it public. People will (eventually) be able to find that realm and jump to it. This will let multiple player jump into that Realm to fight an Apex creature. However you haven't given them access to your respite realm, your base, or anything else. once you have hunted what you are looking for you can close the portal and no one can go to your other realms unless you want them to.
That gives you as a player extreme control over when and how long you play with others.
Theme wise these are extra-dimensional realms and we are stuck in a labyrinth of sorts trying to get home.
As far as getting home.. a portal is open and you can travel through it, you can have portals for multiple realms open at your Estate that lets you farm resources and material.
This also replaces a fast travel system as basically the portals become your fast travel as the realms are small enough to explored on foot.
We are from 1890's in Europe stuck , because the portal system failed. What is still to be seen is how many of the modern inventions of earth are in the game.
Didn't think that needed to be said... however 1890s yes Europe no. The game lets you feel like you are from just about anywhere, just in the 1890s
Is structural integrity a thing?
So many questions.
Lierally because the entire narrative conceit of this game is that this is how the universe of Nightingale works. You might as well as why Skyrim is one huge continent and *not* a collection of different realms connected by magical crossroads.
As for Nightingale, it is part of the lore. From an Aesthetic point of view, it also offer variety to players to decide how their home realms will look, as well as from a performance point of view.
Now you got me curious
