How does one reach this "Desert Gauntlet" realm?

I've found hundreds of posts all over the internet about how everything and everyone seems to be found only in this elusive realm, yet not a single one detailing just how I'm supposed to get there. I've been searching for three days now and I'm running out of things to try and places to look.

If you're following the story mode, after either finishing or accepting some quests (possibly from Nellie Bly or going through the Hollowmoor lands) the portals to all 3 gauntlet realms will appear in the Crossways, then you can access all 3 gauntlet realms.

If you're not doing the story mode you'll probably never get access to the 3 gauntlet realms.

There are some main story quests in the Gloriana's tears and Hallowed Moor realms that will unlock the realm cards for the 3 different Gauntlets

Completing the quests in Gloriana's will unlock Hallowed Moor and the Gauntlet realms.

Nellie opens the watch.

Complete the quests in Gloriana's to open the Gauntlet realms.

All of Nellie's quest goals are in the Gauntlet realms, you have to complete Gloriana's before you can finish her.

No they're not, they're scattered around all 3 Gauntlet realms with several other side quests that lead you on, but I'm sure Nellie suggests that you seek out some one in the Hallowed Moors, which also progresses the quests.
Jump back to the Crossways and see if the Hallowed Moor portal is open, if it is jump through it if not maybe you've not opened that quest up as yet. I can't 100% remember if getting the quest opens the Hallowed Moor or all 3 gauntlets at the same time.

Alternatively, you could try walking up to open of the closed portal gates (after or to the right of the Gloriana portal) at the Crossways and see if you are given the option to open a portal.

This is so counter-intuitive; I was given a very specific choice between a violent path (glorious) and a non-violent path (sorrowful) but in reality the only way to actually progress is to complete both paths?! Thank you. Those vertical puzzles with the nearly impossible to find glyphs are my least favorite part of this entire game but I'll keep trying then.

I've finished all the quests in Hollowed Moor except I can't for the life of me find the third and last "echo" so I'm hoping that too is hidden in the gauntlet realm. (or one of them?)

I'm at a point where I just want this over with, no longer actually enjoying the game much because things are so frustrating.

I agree that it is a bit counter-intuitive and confused me at first that I needed to complete both as thought I could skip the Glory parts because I did the Sorrow ones instead for the non-violent path but the bosses you need to interact with are all in the gauntlets and you need the Glory ones for those.
Only both are needed for the non-violent path. To go violent you can just do the Glory towers and go directly to the gauntlet realms and kill the bosses and completely skip the Hallowed Moor quests, as all of those are just for getting the non-violent path items.

So I finally found the last glyph, went through and got the three Gauntlet cards. Found the bishop, made the offering and got the Charm Oil. Now I'm in Forest Gauntlet, found an Elder Eoten (confirmed using the spyglass) but for some reason there is no altar and it doesn't seem to react to my presence at all. *sigh* NOW what...!?

have you got the track offering or / and the track legend on one of your tools? I think offering is the best for this quest. Also you may have to hunt around the weeds near the Elder for the altar oh and disarm your companion or turn off the attack option for them if you're using him for chopping wood.
His altar is already in the ground looks like a wooden claw.

Companion is under strict orders not to attack and I've spent a good half hour searching and clearing weeds and sticks without any luck. I don't get it, I thought this was an authored realm..? Just how far away from the tree is this altar supposed to be?

EDIT: And there it is. All I had to do was quit, restart the game an hour later and the damned altar spawned as expected.
