Best light-giving indoor light?
I managed to get to the Watch (but just barely, so I am missing a lot of the end game blueprints), aaaaand decided to build myself a nice looking Stave home.

My viking longhouse which sadly isn't that long because Gilded Lumber is a hassle to gather and refine is somewhat finally done, put all my workbenches and stuff in, all good. And then in-game evening game, aaand I was blind as a bat.

Tried a few different chandelabres, a few sconces, etc, but the light produced was... marginal at best, barely going like half a meter or so around, making most of the place still dark af.

Is there a better indoor lighting solution that I havent tried, that you could recommend?
Or is this another situation like with Icarus, where having the Shadows setting to Ultra actually does more harm than good?

Thanks in advance.

I remember seeing stats on some higher end glass you can use when crafting other than Crystalline that buffed the lighting but not able to check as I'm at work. If you have any in inventory check the values out.

All light sources are currently identical.
Which is funny because some materials have a Light Rating which i would imagine is intended to influence it ...

Most people currently just use candles for lighting important stuff since it costs 1 wick only and bound drop it in abundance.
Personally I just put a candle on top of each workbench (yes, you can place objects onto benches) so they're all lit and visible lol

Shadow settings WILL affect natural light sources like the sun. Just currently, All crafted lights affect a 1x1 circle around itself and thats it. They dont actually project that light.

so wait... even the glass quality makes a difference?! argh...

I used the weakest quartz i had simply to not waste good materials on it, didnt imagine it made a difference :/

Later Edit: just used diamond instead of quartz. Same-same...

the lumin settings will change the lighting not the shadow setting

Not crafted light sources. Its either bugged or not properly implemented but regardless of material or tier of the light source, they will ALL give off the same light as a candle.

Lighting in video games is an issue. The only way it is done well is if the ambient light rating increases so it kind of looks like light works - but it's smoke and mirrors. Valheim I would build then light first, up to 30+ (that had to be fed, ughhh), eso was worse as builds were huge so 100+ and it was always still staggering around in the dark. I have found sleeping at night is the best plan, candle on the benches and one by front steps. A few lights here and there but basically they are all meh.

light radius of light sources are not all identical, perhaps the smaller ones are.

im using euclid's lampposts in my home and they light up the surrounding area reasonably well. suppose they were designed for outdoor usage so you ll likely need room heights of more than one standard floor. havent tried the other lampposts but i d imagine they share the same brightness

The candles on everything + stuffs on the wall... it's functional, but far from great :(

yeea, good luck properly brightening up the place in a large one floor height area without going overboard on chandeliers like you went for

it was initially a two floor tall room, and smart me put chandeliers on the ceiling.
The player level was pitch black...

So, i also noticed the light rating on high teir glass, but i think it only affects the equippable lantern.

At night, just sleep, there is literally no downside to it, because sleeping will insta-complete all active crafts, so you actually get to skip a long boring wait if you take advantage of the night-time to queue up a bunch of long crafts and then sleep to insta-complete em.

I know, it's just... I wanted to make everything nice and shiny also in the evening, you know? For the aesthetics and stuff...

I get you, and I in no way disagree, it is just not worth it to try and get fancy with the lighting, because right now the in-game lights barely light up anything.
