I am severely confused now with the update.
So this update should allow for more companions in your base when you dismiss them. So apparently you guys still didn't remove the annoying restriction for survivors that are from other realms but your own? Because i lost an survivor when i dismissed them and not getting a calling card.

Damn i really hoped i could've brought people to my settlement and let them roam around, so its really just workstations? Which is... eh... meh.

Non Update. Pointless "feature" is pointless.

New update allows you to get the calling card of each new companion, you dont have to dissmiss them, you have your own companion, you can go outside and if you try to talk to another companion you can get their calling card, if you dont have any companion with you they will ask you what do you want, the calling card or to turn in to your companion, and this is what you need to put in your cairn state to be able to use them for farming in the new automation stations

I understand this, but i want to dismiss them at my camp and let them roam around without assigning them to a workstation that seems to be quite pointless to begin with right now. Due to the low grade resources.

This is exactly what was needed. Not yet another special resource gather that make stuff we have over flowing overflow even further!.

I mean who will bother fishing any more? If you do frankly your stupid. Just build a work station and be drowning in fish after an hour or so.

Your Cairn Can Hold up to 10 Calling Cards. You can assign up to 6 Workstations.

When "Villagers" are not at workstations they are able to roam around your central Cairn. However I am not sure if yet if they still have AI to sleep and rest if there are beds available during the night.

I must say, I do like the feature and would like to see how it evolves. Being able to build a village, recruit survivors to live in my village as we all journey towards finding Nightingale is enjoyable to me.

I think a solution to having more roam around your village is increase the number of calling cards that a player can store in the Respite Cairn. I have not tested if non-respite cairns can house calling cards.

Edit. Additionally, introduce beds that can be used to assign to a specific calling card, two if double bed, so we can build houses where they sleep regularly.

I went to my friend's address card in his absence and found a naked survivor near the house who looked like my friend's assistant. The survivor stands motionless and without signs of life. His name is not displayed and it is impossible to interact with him. I suspect that those survivors that we can't see may be seen by other players who came from other realms.

Have yet to see ANY evidence that this happens. If anyone has screen shots of it working like this please post as it may be I am individually bugged then? (I have opened a support thread about this on their dedicated bug tracker)

But i have a hunch its more widespread? SO can anyone show WAI screen grabs please?!

That i have yet to see, because it does not work.

Agreed. I have no proof or seen anything like this. The only thing i expect is that you NEED workstations to be present for NPC's to be wandering around that have not yet been assigned to workstations. If not that. Then i have absolutely no clue.

My apologies. It only works if you assign them to the slots but they still roam around if not assigned to a station still.

Will Try ingame as well if they roam when there is no workstation built. But given what is shown in the pics above, I think they will still roam if you have not built any station.

Thank you for coming back to this.
I could try it myself as soon as i find a better realm to settle in.
I did try the assign function but, i believe it didn't work. And i couldn't assign them without any stations.

Has anyone found out yet whether roaming NPCs will attack automatons that assail your decorative trees?

It would be nice to not have to go through the regrowth and rebuild routine every few minutes. Better if automaton storages didn't spawn in the middle of bases in the first place, but I'll take what I can get.

Many thanks. I am bugged then as I have a chap in my station working it (He's invisible) and another in cairn but not assigned a station, they are also invisible and do not appear in any way as your screen shots show.

I can confirm they sleep in your bed, actually take naps sometimes in the middle of the day lol
I made a mistake in asking my lifelong mule, er, traveling companion, for his Card.
Now I cannot access his Inventory, he was carrying stuff (of course) and was semi-decently equipped.
I can assign/unassign him to workstations, follow him about when he wander a bit, but cannot interact with him.
Nothing too critical, just dern annoying.

I have set up a cairn/"settlement" (yes I'm also a Fallout fan) in every "named" realm I can fid and they do wander around, sleep and yet when I check, things are still being harvested; it's kind of weird.
