And then there is multiplayer. How your character looks can be important to you in multiplayer because it's your avatar. But again, that could be overlooked by others because they could opt for singleplayer only gameplay.
Yep. Simple as that.
I can let the devs know what I do and do not like about their game in hopes that what I feel would be improvements might be made.
Wild concept, I know. But I think I might just give it a shot.
I can enjoy stylized looks, also for reference it brings me to mind the stylized looks of Arkane studios a bit, like in Prey, Dishonored 1-2... also No Rest for the Wicked, upcoming game where a majority of npcs have elongated faces
But even Arkane and NRW have more variety then i can manage with the sliders.
I want to make an ugly large faced kinda old (also shorter in stature) with larger nose guy that +the sideburns and a cap would look like some thug/rustler victorian pickpocket youd meet on a back alley. We have sideburns, crooked tooth and even golden teeth(nice!) but all ive managed for my unsavory type background character was to look just like my gentleman one with different facial hair and slight larger face.
1. the game had tons of creation options
2. They gave more ♥♥♥♥♥ about their characters looks than min/maxing stats
If people didnt care about appearances I highly doubt plenty of games with Cosmetic Only cash shops would be around when Cosmetics do not give any stat bonuses, they just look awesome.
For you to say, hard fact, that NO ONE cares about what a character looks like is so laughably naive, it brings into question what world you are from. Have you not seen any of the controversy over Stellar Blade and the sexy main character? What about the explosion of Tifa fanboys from her new Bikini outfit in the latest game release?
Appearances matter in games, otherwise we would all be playing Roblox with different mechanics. Or Minecraft. Appearances in games might not add stats or positively/negatively effect gameplay, but it sure as hell effects peoples enjoyment of the game.
EDIT: Personally though, I feel refunding a game due to the looks is a bit silly but hey, their money, they time, their enjoyment.
The main thing (beside lack of freedom in some sliders and lack of some options) is that the Base Archetypes we choose on step 1 arent just a set of slider stats but base models that are different. I cant tell how many models there are (i bet multiple archetypes use the same model), but each particular model define what can and cant be done, how far slides go and how they behave.
For example theres a chiseled huge chin and pointy nose male archetype where the nose cant ever not be pointy- you can make it more or less pointy but you cant escape that. Same with the jaw and chin, it can change quite a bit but on that archetype its stronger and more exagerated above the average
In my tests i even think i found one male archetype that have a reverted slider- i could ser on my main chars and most tests the 'chin weak-strong slider' made the chin bigger going right, strong- but on that archetype it was the opposite and going for strong made the chin smaller (i THINK it was an native indian or asian archetype, but im not sure anymore)
Anyway the mileage will vary depending on wich archetype is chosen, and each is like a puzzle... but theyre all under the same few options, limited sliders and terribly confusing chargen ui.
I have certainly noticed this. One of the issues is that all the base models given have fish lips and really bizarre looking eyes. I know its not impossible to make a good looking character, but its really friggin hard. its compounded when you want to try and combine specific features and have to work your way through the ancestry system rolling the dice. It feels like fighting the system rather than working with it. And I have yet to find a way to make a character with thin lips or nice smooth skin.
Please fix.
