I just dont understand what i need to do

I have a quest to get to a gear score of 20. the essence trader doesn't have any recipes for new clothes only clothing i found is hireing some old arse named leonard and making him give me all his clothing but they are all 16 and that combined with all my 20 tools only gives me a average of 18. I cant go into any buildings on the map because they all have a red eletric gate....i just dont know what im suppose to do maybe go to a portal?

You should be able to craft "Simple" clothing at this point. They all have an equipment level of 20.

Make the sewing bench.. then you can make a full set of lvl 20 GS. The game does not make things super easy to understand. I happened to stumble across it.

Short term solution would be to get the twitch drops. Doesn't help with understanding the game but helps to clear those early hurdles while figuring stuff out.

If still fail, internet search for game walk-through. There should be a bunch out by now...

I actually have these.. my account is linked and whatever but I've not seen anywhere in the game itself where I can actually collect/equip them. It says on Twitch it was claimed.

Zothan has a point -- there's a theme here. ...and I'm seriously not trying to be mean, but it's obvious.

Slow down and READ all instructions. Don't just scan & click through stuff.


- When you got the quest, there were instructions. (Perhaps too many to be fun, but they were there.)
- In the game's menus, there are instructions.
- On the NIghtingale Twitch promo web pages, there were instructions.


That said... (sigh)
Log in (to your saved realm & character, not just the main menu), click ESC, and under the System menu you'll find where to claim your gear.



@Zothan -- yeah, actually AFKing a stream before work & then claiming the Twitch drops that night IS faster and easier than gathering all the resources & crafting the items, FWIW. ..and a higher net-gear-score, but VERY purple. Like, they couldn't have made the meshes more purple if they tried.

It's a survival game my friend. Gather and craft, gather and craft. More recipes will come as you follow the main story and visit essence traders. But otherwise: gather and craft. Even if the new stuff is ugly as sin.

Pause the game and go through the menus. There should be a rewards tab. You can only see the rewards tab once you make it past the tutorial into the first Abeyance realm.

The gear score seems to be an average of all equipped items so it's not enough to have a few 20 point items/clothing equipped. As you seem to have noticed your gear score changes slightly based on what you're wielding in your hands, if you have a lower score item in your hands, like the first torch you get, then your total score will be below 20 even if everything else you are wearing is at score level 20. Equip a gear score 20 weapon while wearing gear score 20 clothing in every slot (including a gear score 20 backpack) and your score will hit 20.

The gear score is the average of the item you are currently holding in your main hand, and your clothing average. You will see it changes as you change what you are holding.

At this stage, the spyglass you got as a gift has a rating of 41, while everything else is a lot less.

Hold the spyglass when you try to go through the force wall. When the guy says it's an important gift - it is.

Good call, 41 plus all their level 16 stuff might push their score up above 20.
