Toggle off hand items (suggestion)

It would be nice if we could toggle off hand items.

If there is a way to do this already I would appreciate any guidance.

I know you can move things around to force this to happen but, for example, if my "6" key brings out my umbrella, it would be nice if we could press "6" again and put the umbrella away.

I'm roaming around trying to get knife kills for a quest and it's awkward having the umbrella, torch, food or a bag of berries up on the screen along with it all the time.

There are times when it's nice to have at the ready not it's not always needed.

I say this only since in the games current configuration, the corresponding key just brings up that item and does not consume or use an item.

So, it would be nice that if we pressed this key the second time, the secondary / off hand item would go off screen.

I second this, There should be some kind of sheathe option as well I hate when im trying to build and always having to have something in my hand blocking my screen.

There is, lol.
Defaults to H on keyboard IIRC. It just puts away whatever you have in your hands.

this also puts the main hand away also, OP specifically wants to put away the offhand only without having to swap offhand to an empty slot all the time

Draw Main Hand + Offhand together.
Press H to sheathe both.
Press the desired main hand tool hotkey. Offhand should stay sheathed while main hand holds the tool.

June now, I am having the same issue. I do not like how obtuse putting away a secondary item is on offhand, specifically the umbrella (takes up a lot of the screen). I can get it to go away if I equip or do what is suggested here, but I hate how that means I cannot use my scroll wheel to go through my hotbar and pull out my hunting knife WITHOUT also having the umbrella pop up too. I can use the numbers associated with the hotbar to only pull out a main hand item like my hunting knife, but I only use scroll wheel and using the numbers, especially in instances where I am doing things quickly (mining then pulling out a knife when an enemy surprises me) I don't want to have to use number, just the flick of my scroll wheel but not ALSO pull out my knife and umbrella as well.

I second OP that it would be a QOL improvement to be able to press the same button associated with the offhand item to put it away (Umbrella is specifically a mouse key on the side). Would be nice to just click it once to pull out the umbrella to jump off a cliff them press it again to put it away. Simple, easy, mindless.

Two things, by default H stowes your held items, so you are at most 2 keypresses from where you want and one can be left mouse.

Second, you don't get the stats from your umbrella if you put it away. I love knife kills. I'm a knife afficionado. I always have my umbrella up, for the stats but also so I can umbrella rush things into knife range.
