This may just be me, but I think a sneaking shot where the animal inst moving has better luck because of the network lag. I've never scored a heart shot in the heat of battle with things running everywhere. And I don't think it's because I can't aim, I think the game just cant register a shot like that on the hit box appropriately.
This is a frustrating quest, but if you think of it as 50/50 questing and the other half collecting boar parts for salves, food and leather, it's just fine.
Since, at the time, you have only the slingbow, at some point shoot at distant dirt/dusty ground so you see impacts better, so you get an idea of fallouff. That will help you aim at the correct height.
Also, something simple but some folks forget. If you are staring at it in the eyes, its left is your right >_>
Also for the Bound I havnt gotten a heart shot iv noticed as of yet...only head shots. So, do they even have hearts?
For Bound, they likely don't have one, since they are always auto-aggroing you.
For Deers and Bears, if you shoot behind their front legs at their torso from the side, as it's impossible from the back.
