The actual recipes for things are separate unlocks, you're either given or have to buy from merchants.
The proper augmentation just allows the recipes to be added to a crafting station _if_ you have them, under the "decor recipes" section at the very bottom of the crafting station menu.
If you look at the recipes the augment adds, the ones you don't own have a lock symbol on them. It kind of lets you know if there's any point in even building the augment station yet.
The augment system is insanely burdensome. there's more augments than machines have room for, and you lose recipes if you hit the machines cap.
The same applies, one of your augments is overiding the one for the shotgun, and I can't remember which augment it needs, give me a few and I'll edit the post with the answer.
EDIT - Its the crude tea set, because you know Tea helps make guns... lol
My GF and I have taken to just playing musical chairs. When we need something we drag the machine to another room, and then drag the augment for that item to it. Its tedious and annoying.
Can yeah, then just move whatever into range when you need that particular thing for crafting. ie the musical chairs method.
