recruitable npcs
do they just follow you arounnd and mine? feels rather rough. I would think I'd like to be able to say, mine this area an whatever tools they have in their inventory, they would handle in that area and bring back to a storage?

Yes. They just randomly walking around, carrying your stuff, attacking enemies and harvesting resources depending on tool you gave them and equipped. All you can do is check their storage and dismiss :D

They do on occasion set themselves on fire. And reset themselves back to default taking any gear upgrades with them (mine did just now). You have that to look forward to.

They work well as a floor lamp, look nice roasting over an open fire or standing on the forge.

You can give them different tools to use but must Lt click on the item to highlight, then Rt click for options > equip. If you just Rt click on it you can end up pulling it back into your inventory. When you can, give them a hammer for boss fights. They make pretty good tanks.

They have unlimited carry wt but their # of slots is small. I gave mine a nice new backpack and it changed nothing but their gear score level. Sad times. You can give them your old clothes or if generous make them their own. That's all I know or remember for now.

They are not bad but like a 4 yr old, totally uncontrollable, and worth a chuckle once in a while. If using for wood cutting don't place your base in the trees. They will fell the trees on your house and smash it to bits. LOL

I had mine equipped with a pickaxe for mining stuff, it kept walking over to trees, stopping, then walking over to a rock. Also it can only use like three tools, axe, pickaxe, and weapons. I gave a sickle to one and it just stood there dumbly. Considering sticks/fiber are like two of the primary things you need, no idea how they didn't think to program them to harvest that.

My NPC cannot work with the sickle, too!

What I noticed: When the NPC picks up wood, he takes it to the furnace.
Not to a (shared) storage!

When I look in my npc's bag I never see resources unless I have put them there. With both wood and rocks, yeah, mostly just leaves them which is a big issue if that is his job. So, if I fill his slots with my junk then is the invisible storage he apparently uses also full?

I have never had him add a single pc of wood to a fire and he cuts down a lot of trees when I let him, but he will add mats to buildings and stuff. I carefully extinguish fire after cooking and when I next log on there is no wood waiting, it's disappeared. I'm going to watch him like a hawk and see if it's just me not paying attention or if he is bugged.

An NPC I dismissed is stalking me. I dismissed him in a completely different realm, then when I came back to my home dimension he was walking around in my house! He won't leave, and keeps taking wood from my storage and putting it in the fire as fuel. I think it's his passive aggressive way of showing me that he's pissed at being dumped.

They will mine or chop trees depending on the tool you arm them with. I leave an axe and pick in their inventory, and switch their weapon as needed.

They have unlimited carry weight.

They can _revive_ you in a fight.

They fight rather well, if you give them decent weapons for the level of the realm.

They distract bosses, though they have a tendency to go down as injured because they get nuked by AOE's. But you can run past them and just press E once to revive them too.

Overall the recruits seem to work great.

If you want autocollectors, I think that's what they brass robots might be for later. Every time I see them, there's a strange post like structure called an "automaton station". It's usually empty, sometimes I will see a stack of wood or resources in it. I wonder if we the players will be able to build these things later on, and set them to auto-harvest around our bases.

I thought I had lost my NPC, so I recruited a new one, and they appeared at my base when I returned. When they returned they had their default equipment, so definitely don't give them good equipment, just stuff that's easy to craft.

If you do not want a Follower to use wood from your storage, you can open the storage that you have the wood in... look at the bottom right and you'll see a permission that allows your Survivor access. click that and disallow. This *should* stop them from being able to take items out of that storage (or put items in, if they ever did that).

Lol my follower can't use the little marble shooter crossbow type gun. He just stands there and stares at enemies. I just give him a torch and he acts as a light sometimes since the pathing or something is broken.

You should have seen a message when you did that that says atm only melee weapons.

@Foxglovez and others:
Not the cooking area, the furnace.

Im not sure about the auto collector storage because the desert tutorial had a bunch of my stuff removed when I used it as storage. It is like they went to it and stole my junk.
