dead by starving in the desert realm
wow that was fast!
tried to understand what to do and how to do, but my first few minutes are a bad experience. starving at the beginning is a bad move for new players.
reached the desert realm - build a tent, crafted the tools and *dead*
and with *dead* the game crashed *lol* - really?
no good start!

what did i miss in the first realm?
build a fire, get some berries, roast them and eat them, move on to the next realm (desert).
how do i gather food in the desert? i assume i have not much time.

thx

You have to go and hoover up all the berries, all of them. Roast them which uses too many up but that's another issues, then get to desert be sure and eat some first thing. Then pick allll the little plants, yucca like ones, a lot of them, and roast those. The berries give almost no health, the mixed plants much better but need a lot to be safe, and need to eat them regularly.
I ran over to the building and made my fire and tent there w resources I had gotten in the first biome. Stay out of the sun if you can. LOL such fun.

Alternative idea, set a starting base in the forest plenty of plants and animals to eat, use the desert to explore while having all the food from the forest, then when you are secure in your gear and got blueprints to grow your own food, move to the desert.

Profit.

So i don't have to follow the tasks when pluck said i shall move on to the desert?
Wonder, why i starve in the starting phase.

Wait is this in the tutorial?

If so just speed run it, it takes like 5 mins

Yeah, you skipped ahead too fast. I didn't leave the forest until I had stacks of berries, raw and roasted. "Desert" sort of implies a lack of resources. It was all pretty self explanetory.

Corberic didn't read your thread. He doesn't understand you are at the beginning of the tutorial. Reading comprehension is not a thing any more. Puck says you can go, indeed, but just cuz you can doesn't mean you are ready. There are also chests in the buildings with fun stuff, little vertical chests will blue windows, gold chests, lots of mats. Yes you can run off, pants on fire, but this is a survival game, you need to prep for the future. And in the swamp, explore the buildings, there are two big ones, go to the tops, snoop around.

You need to eat. You need to cook your food.

Un needed drive by, attempting to be helpful and failing is an accident, being an entitled douche canoe is a choice.

I mean, you ain't wrong.

Follow the words of the ferret because food in this world does not spoil so carry what ever you can.

It really does not use too many up when you cook them, it uses only five berries for "roasted berries" and only two ingredients for "mixed plants" plus the cooked foods are significantly better than eating them raw because of the buffs they provide.

The food thing is a non-issue if you paid attention when you were taught how to cook. You don't need that much food to get through the desert and the game teaches you how to gather, and cook, before you get there. If anyone starves it's their own fault for not being prepared - we were all adequately warned about requiring food and taught how to cook.

Food is two things.

First, it gets you satiation.

Secondly, it gives you buffs.

You can just eat uncooked berries for satiation. But if you want better buffs, eat baked berries. Meat, once you get it (cooked), is a lot better.

Check around the trees, some berrys are around and then make haste to leave the desert. The next map will have plenty of food.

Yeah, Puck tells you to move along and gives you the impression you need to make haste while the portals are aligned but you can take some time to cook more food.

Honestly the desert section is pretty short so there's no need to make a huge amount of food. If you fill up your food meter most of the way it will be more than enough to get through the desert section. My guess is that DK75 wasted a lot of time in the desert for some reason, the food meter doesn't drop very fast so it would have taken quite a while to starve to death.

His toon might have been like mine, when I arrived at the desert I was instantly starving, my food I had eaten was all disappeared and health bar was flashing. With just berries it didn't fill up hardly at all so it made me pretty paranoid, for good reason. Puck really should let folks know there are goodies stashed all around in the tutorial biomes. Why would they put them there then tell you to rush through and not snoop around?

There's a disconnect between exploring, survival and rushing. Most folks not used to survival games choose #3. This is really true in swamp where exploring really takes you out of the way. Those buildings, at least one, should be on the direct path to portal as most folks otherwise wont have a clue, not even know they are there.
