Did I make a huge mistake?
I did all the tutorial/questing in the first Forest biome... got the Antiquarian card and went through the teleporter as I was supposed to (Forest biome/Antiquarian). Knowing that I'm going to be here for awhile (I guess?) doing quests, I put down another Estate Cairn here in this realm. Does this now mean that I can never travel back to my original one where all my crafting stations are? Or can I not travel to the one I placed here because I didn't actually change my Respite? I'm so confused how all this realm stuff works. If someone could be kind enough to kind of explain to me how we travel back to our original Respite, but at the same time have a "central" location to drop stuff off in a new realm... I would really appreciate it. I don't even know if I "teleport to Respit" if that will take me OUT of this Antiquarian realm and never be able to return. I'm just really confused how this works.

So you want to have that companion before you leave your respite. That guy is your pack mule. You can at any time open the map, select travel to your respite under the pocket watch picture. You can go back to the realm you were just in using the same portal. It can be used over until you reset it with new cards (this is all stuff I've seen and heard, not actually done all of it).

You aren't really going to be in that new realm (the one not your respite) all that long. A couple of hours or so. Here is one take on what you do:
1) Travel to a new realm from the portal on your respite realm.
2) Go to the Fae tower (pretty much the only POI you see initially). Defeat the boss/objective there to unlock all other things being shown on the map.
3) Do all the stuff you want or have time for on that realm.
4) Travel to the trader and buy up as many of the blueprints that you don't have as you can.
5) Head back to your respite realm.
6) Craft up all those things from those new blueprints to try and upgrade your character.
7) Repeat 1 - 6 on different biomes until you are ready to do the next dungeon you have unlocked after the previous (in this case the Antiquarian is the previous), the next is Herbarium.
8) Pretty much repeat step 7 until end game.

When you use a portal it saves that realm to you with the combination of cards you used. So you go through a portal from your home realm and it will always take you to that realm unless you reset it.

Your not supposed to move your cairn as thats what links you permanently to a realm. You can try searching for a portal in your realm and seeing if it will open a portal back. No idea if that will work, if not just gonna have to rebuild.

Right, what I didn't mention is that there is pretty much no reason to build in that realm you travel to from the respite realm. You don't need to put stuff in a base, just use your companion, the pack mule to hold stuff. You then travel back to your respite realm using the map.

You can place a new cairn in a new realm, that should not automatically change your respite. There is another step needed to set the new realm as your respite. Hopefully you didn't do that. If you did, I think you are screwed.

As long as you don't reset a portal, you can reopen it (it's free) and it will lead to the same realm.
It works both ways.
If you want to keep both realms, I think you should travel to respite and see where you go then go to the portal and reopen it whichever the result is.
Just don't reset the portal (it can take a minute to open).

go to the portal, click on "Re-open portal" and i should open the last used portal, so you should be able to go back to your home realm. there re-activate your cairn.
Thank you all so much for the help. This is really confusing without help. I think I understand it now, and hopefully I didn't mess up when putting the new Estate Cairn down (that's ALL I did, was just put it down).

The problem is my Follower has a tiny backpack and can only hold maybe 8-10 more items other than all their gear. I guess I should be more picky what I really want to save to take back with me, LOL! Anyway, thank you for the help! And no, I did nothing more than just put the Cairn down... I didn't tell it to make it my Respite or anything. So... I guess I'll find out later after I do all this stuff on this map (just finished the Fae Tower).

Good point, it doesn't hold much. I think you can put the heavy stuff in the follower and light random one off stuff in yours. I have honestly not tried this yet, but this is what I've seen in a few videos. Keep in mind, you can make multiple trips if needed.

You can craft backpack I was going to do this and see if it helped follower slot limit, have you already tried that?

Respite can only be set in Abeyance realms.
Building a cairn in a realm will still give the benefit of no spawns in the immediate area.

Anything you build can be torn back down later.

What I can say about follower is they seem not to be as impacted by weight. So giving heavier stacks to them will keep you unencumbered and able to move and jump etc effectively. Enjoy the journey. We are all learning as we go

If you don't want the new one, just press X (if using kb/mouse) to open the modify buildable menu and remove it (V key I think but can't remember for sure). You'll get all your materials back and it will go away. Can also reposition it from the same menu if you don't like where you put something. Just press X again to exit out of that menu. And like others have already said, as long as you don't place new cards you can go back and forth as many times as you want.

Thank you! That actually answers another thing I was wondering about (if I could move things I've placed down). I'm so addicted to this game right now and learning has been mostly fun (just a little frustrating at times, but still fun).

I know you can change out their tools but remember to Rt click on the item and "Equip" it. Think that would be the same with a new backpack. My guy needs a new backpack though he's not the brightest bulb. I watched him stand on top of the fire. Nicely lit up from head to toe. You can put several tools in his backpack and just equip the one that is useful atm.

My question is if I give him a better pick will he go break up ores and crystals or always just go for the rock?
