How to increase gear score/Get upgraded items

this game is a lot of fun but grinding out the gear upgrades can be tedious if you don't know what you need. after more then 24 hours in game I wanted to post some details to help folks avoid the back and forth grind as much as possible.


to start your simple items are gear score 20. you can not infuse or charm or enchant these items.

Uncommon Items = Gear score 40 - gained from using the upgrade workbench to raise simple gear. can have one enchant/infusion/charm.

Refined Items = Gear score 45-60 depending on what base materials you use - can be upgraded at the upgrade workbench. can have two infusions/enchants/charms after upgrading.


to get the refined gear you need the next level of workbenches. to get these you will need to do the quests in the antiquarian forest realm. once complete you will have a quest to unlock the astrolabe realm card. the tower is in your abeyance realm. once complete you will then see the providence and herbarium towers on your map as well. the providence tower takes gear score 40 minimum to clear and it is in a providence realm where you will get the recipes for the refined workbenches.

Important note: you will require a lot of wood/lumber and ingots. when building the new workbenches focus on the Brazier and refined table saw first. every other refined workbench will need parts crafted at those two stations.

I had to run 3 separate realms to gather enough Tin/Nickle to make the ingots. you can use any metal but the others are rare depending on the realm.

My recommendation is to build a pair or portals at your home base once you complete the antiquarian forest quest line. then farm up a lot of resources as you farm essence, supper important to stockpile essence. upgrades use T1 essence and upgrading a tool/weapon made with various wood and fiber types will have larger effects on the upgrades.
