AVAST ANTIVIRUS JUST STARTED REPORTING IDP.GENERIC VIRUS
Specifically in file ....\steamapps\common\Nightingale\NWX\Binaries\Win64\NWXClient-Win64-Shipping.exe.

Didn't report virus presence on release day (20th) or yesterday (21st) but started doing so this afternoon when loading in the game whereupon it quarantines file. Strangely, if I restore file and run virus check on file specifically or on the Nightingale top folder NO virus is detected.

Has anyone else had this happen?

if a generic alarm, it aint anything bad, those can happen with any virus protection program and almost always aint a virus at all.

Who on earth is still using a 3rd Party Antivir in 2024?
Zildur Feb 22, 2024 @ 8:40am
I have the same problem
You need to go to Quarantine and make an execption for the executable file of the game

Probably the same people who think Tencent is the only company spying on their data LOL.

Never used third party AV for 15 years. Common sense and not visiting sites where ladies... Or men.... Show you things of a rude nature and do things with toys you never thought the human body capable of........

Aren't all anti virus programs third party? What do you mean? Although I have to be honest, your comment is not exactly helpful

Yes, that comment was very helpful. Get rid of Avast and stick with Defender. Read some proper tech reviews and you will understand. But overall: Get rid of the Avast junk asap.

Given all AV is third party then the comment regarding third party AV stands as a valid statement, even though technically it was a rhetorical question, I assume.

Yeah have the same problem, i think avast is an AV that blocks more stuff than most others, thats why i like it.
I think my first problem was, that the exe (NWXClient-Win64-Shipping.exe) in Steam\steamapps\common\Nightingale\NWX\Binaries\Win64
was quarantined by my AV.
now i try to find out how it got blocked, because a scan shows a secure file.

Virustotal: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/579b5e9796a6d5026c1a921a965c9e1da29aea8a995f52101915678c96f3d566?nocache=1

edit: Starting the game causes Avast to block the mentioned file.

Edit2: when the file is blocked you get the following Error:
Couldn't start: "... Steam\steamapps\common\Nightingale\NWX\Binaries\Win64\NWXClient-Win64-Shipping.exe" NWX -projectName flx-live -featureSet flighting
CreateProcess() returned 2.

Correct method by providing it to Virustotal. With that you can be almost certain it is a false positive report. And then just whitelist and you are good to go.

Strange thing is, Avast does not find anything maliciouse in the exe, but as far as i think, it does something that avast considers as a virus.

so still not sure if it's 100% safe.
