Forest has hailstorm so either find shelter/roof or equip an umbrella, Swamp water has disease if you stay in it for too long, get out before >50% disease bar and Desert has the deadly sun and you need to find shade before the heat bar reach >50%.
It's not random , you are just not paying attention to your status. Pretty obvious too, since you are not even aware of the difficulty settings... There's no timer in the game, so take some time to read the journal, codex, etc.
I started on Medium, then re-rolled to Easy. You just listed all the reasons for me not to go back into the game again. Stuck in the forest in a death loop and you think it's cause I didn't read the codex. Thanks for your advice, I'll not be needing it.
This is an actual survival game, it's what it is...
For those who may be in a similar predicament, let's review. You can starve to death. Eating raw animals is a great way to have a bad time and possibly even projectile vomiting. Your hit points will start going down before you've completely starved to death. When you're mostly starved to death, you're going to be rather flimsy so don't forget snacktime! Most natural water sources are kind of nasty, but stagnant water sources (like a swamp) are even worse. Don't go for a soak without wellies and be thankful the devs didn't add leeches. The sun, despite what the hippies sing, is not your friend and seeing too much of it can burn you to a crisp. Be thankful the devs haven't implemented melanomas. ...and while I slightly disagree with hail damage being so regularly able to kill people, hail stings like a m@#$@!$#@! at the best of times, and real hail sometimes comes in the size of baseballs which can definitely kill you. In the interests of gameplay however, most people are willing to sacrifice graphical fidelity and not seeing baseball-sized hail in order to not have to spend an additional $300 on their GPU.
Now get back in there and spread the good word about Imperialism.
