Everyone is lying about bad ping and "hosting"
You are the host. These are p2p games. So if you start a game, you are the host, you have ping of 0-5. The server is for the storage and transfer of information like map changes, building structures etc. So if you invite someone else to your realm, and they join when you aren't online, it downloads the changes from the server and they are the host, any changes they make are saved to the server, and you download them when you join.

There is no central server hosting thousands of instances of 1 man servers. That would be completely stupid. It is the same system that Vikings of Midgard uses.

Don't try to explain this to them. They're in full-on REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE mode right now.

Yeah, but when they say "I'm in Australia playing with 300 ping" that's just a straight up lie. It may seem like that because animation is janky, but I'm in NZ and there is no lag, it's just bad animations. My "ping" is 0.

anyway to prove it? I wanna get it but not if I have to play with high ping by myself.
able to screenshot ping or something?

How quickly do the cached (local) building changes and such try to get uploaded to the server? Do they try to do it immediately (no cache)? Because I could see that causing lag whenever any such change is made.

If they're properly cached, and you're actually right about how the game works, that would be pleasant news.

Is this true? It's weird because enemies take a few seconds to react to a hit similar to that of a game with very bad ping, If it is true... I don't know if that makes my feel better or worse about my experience with the game.

Playing solo by myself, I've been disconnected for network errors, I've been teleported back where I was like there's server authority speed checks. I've had bad hit registration with combat enough of the time that either their hit reg code is awful or it's also server auth, and somehow my "local server" is terrible. My PC and internet are plenty, and I don't have similar issues like this elsewhere.

ahh ok, so this is the opposite of helldivers 2 where they lie that there is no server issues. I was just about to post to see if these solo plays are true or not lol

Nightingale’s multiplayer functionality operates on a server-based architecture, not P2P. You sir, are fake news.

yeah i was watching this twitch streamer and you can somehow do a matchmaking for the dungeons? is that true? if it is, then you are definitely playing on a server and not p2p.

i saw a review that the servers are in merica, so if you are in merica, then you are fine.

You may want to reserve judgement. There are a lot of angry people who might be exaggerating things, but there are also a dedicated handful of people saying the most ridiculous stuff to defend this company's decisions. So Idk.

Servers are Canadian based so yes, basically in merica.

Three sources for how the multiplayer functions, clearly showing how its not P2P. For those that don't know, P2P would mean it would functions tremendously worse for what they intended to accomplish.

I thought it was weird people on about lag when playing solo, it made no sense. Plus people are whining about keybindings which I get, annoyed me so much I had to refund that online dino game, but 'arrow keys' who the ♥♥♥♥ uses arrow keys to walk about? ...the left handed I guess? Anyway, think I'll buy it now :steamhappy:

There is a significant chance OP is full of it. Just so you know. But there's always that 2 hour return window in that case, I suppose...

any latency i've felt seems to be in confirmation. hitting things is certain, the reaction might be delayed. the wolf ran out of hitpoints but it's death animation was a quarter second behind kind of stuff.

action reaction seems fine, if a death animation or a wall forming are delayed mildly i don't much care

no, im not reserving judgement ... I bought HD2 on 16 Feb 2024 which is a friday ... there was server issues.

no one mentioned anything in reviews about the server issues ... well, rarely, but it was sitting at very positive, so I thought it was just people playing on a network or something and forgot their port forwarding or it was the antivirus or whatnot.

well ... there was server issues ... isnta refund ... 3 days later it's mixed review and all these server issues reviews came in lol.
