Elder Eoten Hearts come from a boss, the tree you killed was just a normal mob. There's a good guide on youtube for finding the boss one.

It's only for npc fetch quest right now, and you only need to have 1 piece.

It's useless for actual crafting.

When you get close to a boss one, the boss health bar will pop up. Plus he's much bigger than the sapling trees that are the normal Eotens.

I killed one in a forest astrolabe and didn't have a clue to what it is used for. Oops I guess.
