Essence conversions

I assume this isn’t already in the game and if it is then disregard.

Is there any form of essence conversion? (no I’m not wanting nor suggesting the ability to convert essence dust to a higher essence like T1 etc that would ruin the game in a big way) rather asking if it’s possible now or in the future to downgrade from a higher essence to a lower essence?

Only essence -> essence dust. About 400 epic essence will give you 1,000,000 essence dust, but no, there is no T3 -> T2 essence conversion. You have to pop a T2 realm, toss down a Treasury minor card, and farm farm farm if you want to make tons of equipment.

About an hour in a T2 realm usually nets me ~1000 T2 essence.

No, there is no conversion mechanism now.

But what you can do is reset a lower tier realm to be extreme, and then go through the new map and do the POI's there. I have gear good enough for ascended hunt realms, and when I go to a regular non-ascended realm I can one-shot everything even on extreme difficulty. I made over 1000 green T1 essence in about 45 minutes of running from POI to POI. Then I did the same for a herbarium realm to get 1000+ blue T2 essence.
