After patch be sure you select game server you are near, hopefully we can see ping, look for a low number.
Then check your net setup. What is your up and download speed? Do you need to optimize a firewall? Have you got the min connection speed? If your internet is under 200 mbps you may just be sol.
Lag is simply caused by the fact that this is a client/server type game architecture. The player in the client (the game running on your PC) will do something like move forward and then notify the server (the game running at the remote location) of it. The server then responds that it has updated the player position. If the client gets no response from the server, it then moves the player back to its original position. There is a specific time allowed for a server response to reach the client. This is called a timeout when it doesn't happen quick enough. When a timeout occurs, you get that little rollback. The lag.
Maybe it is the maintenance they're doing because I just got disconnected with "network error" and now I'm getting a "error getting shards for client".
Should I just wait a little?
Yes, we are all waiting. Can't play the game until the servers are done updating. Their discord might have more on this.
On the discord at about 15 minute ago:
Hour Update: Maintenance is still ongoing. Thanks for your patience.
from the first patch insight:
Additional / updated messaging for future server maintenance periods
It funny how software works. You need to add the code first that shows a patch is being applied, before it can show the message that a patch is being applied. Almost as if the game was released a few weeks before it was actually ready
