pistols have extremely poor range, you wont generally want to be outside of close range to use them unless you have specific charms.
In the real world, yes. This isn't the real world. In the GAME, the range of the pistols is terrible. Other than the crosshairs being hard to see at times, they work fine. Maybe they'll change it in the future if enough people actually put something about it on their official bug/suggestions forums instead of complaining in a steam forum. File a report and wait to see if they fix it to your liking.
Later you will find out that cannot hit AF. Bullets just hitting the ground behind mobs texture/hit box.
ADS would be much more boring also slow and useless for that gun in this game.
It is the way it is because of how it is meant to function as a weapon so your best bet is to try to understand the game play better and then maybe see why its that way.
