When I cut a tree, the screen temporarily freezes.
When I cut a tree, the screen freezes temporarily.
After a few seconds, when I can move my character, I am still unable to cut the tree.
After a few seconds, momentarily, I am drawn to the foot of the tree and the tree falls.
It then returns to normal.

Worst case scenario, cutting the tree freezes and I have to log out because after waiting for a while the screen remains stationary.

PS
I am enjoying this game.
The user rating on Steam is not correct.
I look forward to the next version upgrade.

Dang, that sounds horrible. I had an issue like this at launch but it went away. It seems like a network issue. The game currently has a lot of issues regarding servers, connections, lag, things like that. Sometimes it's the users end, sometimes it's their end. They are working on improving connection issues and they seem to get a little better with each update

I'd recommend submitting a bug report just in case it's something other than the standard network issues

Apparently the fix is to make a new Axe..

Thank you for your comments.
This is an event that started happening recently.
It would be nice to see an improvement.

What a surprise!
I have gone to the trouble of finishing my R3 axe and I am not comfortable changing to a new axe.

Perhaps the cause of the freeze may be from an axe made with enhanced ingots.
Curse of the reinforced ingot.

I don't think it is, people are reporting similar issues with non folded axes, they made a new one and the bug is gone.

The above thread has your answer.

No, this bug can occur post exploit (post patch). I created a new axe last night, this morning used it and the game crashed (just once). Worked most of the time, but currently you can get this crash still with a new axe.

The woodcutting bug is based on damage. I never "folded" my axe pick, just made it from all melee ingots that drop from giants and got the woodcutting bug. Then I switched to titanium and it was better but still there. I ended up switching from dauntless to mystic and making my current axe pick out of mostly titan's fingernail. I also played a harvester's workshop card. It still one shots trees and with oberon's I'm getting double the wood, more than triple the wood if I play a lumber mill card.

By "based on damage" you mean how much damage? My axe doing between 100 and 130 damage and 2 to 3 chops for a smallish tree crashed my game this morning. So how is that too much damage?

No, I think it is something more random, some kind of race condition most likely.

It is very easy to dismiss these problems as something "they" must be doing wrong until it happens to you. I was not getting this with my other character with the exploit axe. I made a new character a few days ago to see what the game would be like without using exploits. My first time in a forest provision at medium difficulty, got the crash after being there about 5 minutes.

I don't have a screen shot of it right now, could make one later tonight.

IDK man it seemed based on damage to me. The all giant melee ingot axe pick would freeze and crash. The titanium axe pick still did that but to a much lesser degree. Now with axe pick in the screenshot I never freeze at all.

I'm not dismissing anything, but to me it seems a lot like the same bug you'd get in ARK when collecting mass amounts of berries that would eventually just crash the server. Like it has something to do with the total damage happening on the server.

I just run around chopping the little thin trees, takes 1 hit to chop em and I come out with 3-400 wood each time.. companion with same unless she's hauling ore.

Ya, that is what I figured until it crashed on me with very little damage being done.

Well honestly when I need wood I go to a the swamp hunt realm with humbaba find him and follow him around. He knocks down trees like crazy and last time I did it I came back with over 1500 wood. It took me longer to find him than to get that wood because I wasnt carrying my scope.... I rarely chop down more than a tree or 2 but also have this bug and the more trees I hit at once the worse it gets to the point of crashing.
