Anyone found a perfect realm for this?
I know you can get some from caves etc but I once found a load of it on a hillside, next to tin or zinc.. can't remember which, zinc is swamp tho isn't it?

End game city you can just buy it from traders

You find them in caves or NEAR cave (usually those Occupied POI)

That said, I get coal from end game Vault Running. Taking out those bots give gunpowder and coal. :) I got a stockpile of them.

But if you want lots of cave, I notice Swamp generate it more, but you can do Desert too (cave POI) but I have better chance in swamp.

I once found a spot in a forest, maybe provisioner.. not sure, maybe herb.. but the whole hillside was covered in coal.. we pulled like 300 out in minutes.. hit the ore and the thing just bursts open with the high level picks.. I'll keep looking.

The automatons are a good source as are the traders I just don't like clicking for 1 coal.. unless they sell like 10.. maybe. I'll go look now.

Nope can't find coal, they have sulphur, gunpowder, coral.. no coal tho. And the prices are insane.. 5 T1 for 1 sulphur.. lol.

Yea. I wish Traders can set quantity. It can check against my essence balance, so it should not be a problem :)

Yea. normally, you would mix it with Sulphur to get gunpowder (you highest usage to make bullets) but you can get gunpowder directly in vault run (yay for Automatons!!)

I have literally 10 stacks of 100 gunpowder right now (yea, I am a hoarder)

Weird, i dont think ive ever gotten gunpowder from automatons ever. The only thing they drip is the metal sphere you can mining pick for gears and plates and such. All ive ever seen them drop besides that is random seeds. The only thing ive ever seen drop gunpowder are the potion-bomb throwing bound. Coal though, is very abundant in vaults. Break all the random barrels that people ignore, most have wood and fiber, but a lot have coal. Just dump the stuff you dont need when it gets too heavy. Bonus, break the goldplated barrels for ammo.

Bound Grenadiers drop gunpowder.. Automatons do as well. And Coal.. but I was looking for large amounts not 30 at a time which makes 15 steel ingots..

gloom desert for me, all of the plateaus have little caves on the side with sulfur and coal in or around them alongside the other minables.

TBH you're better off breaking jugs in the watch dungeons than mining for coal.

Coal always in walkway down to fae portal though it's only 20-30 with matching sulphur for each one. Never seen a big batch. Found a huge bunch of copper in herb desert way down south, that and salt. Quit after 300, but I will go back at some point.

Yeh in those caves varients there's coal, I keep finding the little caves tho, which have just sulphur some amber and often stuff like cobalt..

The devs are sneaky and put coal in the darkest area facing the wall. Also tucked into the rocks on outside of opening to caves, fae portal, especially in desert and up and around opening in swamp. There should pretty much always be same amt of coal as sulphur in those areas.

You can get coal from the regular looking barrels in Vaults, at the Watch, sometimes one or two, fairly often. The ornate ones never drop them, and if you play trickster, the normal barrels will drop meat instead fairly reliably, as well, if you want to farm oil / pigment while farming other things.
