I can't really understand why some people get upset so much when others are asking and hoping for an option to play their game in third person. I can't fathom how it is taking something away from them, it's an option, either use it or not, but more options is always better than less options in my mind.
There are a lot of games that I would have purchased if those games would have third person view option, I'm not mad about them not having it, and I'm not raving about it on forums, I just don't buy those games because I know that I'm not going to put a lot of hours on them and get my moneys worth.
And I know for certain that there are a lot of people like me who pass on games with first person game play only, most of them don't even bother to participate on these kind of discussions, they just opt out, so it would make sense for developers to cater for those customers too and make more sells and more money of their games.
I've heard rumors that there is at least an experimental third person option in this game, so if that's true and they are going to include that option I'm a happy customer, other wise I'll pass and spend my money on something else.
That's a bit of good news, which I hadn't heard. I'm hoping so, because I really like what I've seen of the game so far, but without a 3rd person option, I'm not likely to play it.
I'm similar to you, but I generally don't opt-out entirely when a game I'm interested in is lacking 3rd person options. I buy it, try it, and if it doesn't feel good within the first hour or so, I refund it.
Some 1st person games I can handle, but most I cannot, so I usually do refund. I'm pretty sure whether I have issues in a game's first person or not depends mostly on the FOV. If it's high enough (without fish bowl effect), I can usually enjoy the game (unless it also has screen shake effects that cannot be disabled).
The real answer is that people just like to ♥♥♥♥♥ about anything and everything. It really is as simple as that.
The real answer is that people just like to attack other player (probably cause they like to feel superior), without reading (or just ignoring) what this people wrote before. It really is as simple as that.
To explain it again in simple words: It is called Motion sickness: SOME PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO PLAY THIS GAME! THEY CAN'T, CAUSE THEY GET SICK (can include vomiting, sickness, dizziness) IN FIRST PERSON! They don't ask cause they have nothing to do ... And every REAL fan should have interest that their favorite game attract as many cutstomer as possible.

(sorry for my english)
People are talking about getting, quite literally, sick due to 1st person, but you think "immersion" should be so much more important to them then not becoming ill while playing a game? I mean, seriously? How can you NOT get that?
And I do not personally find computer first person view to be more immersive, on the contrary. (Trying to imagine a movie always showing a firts person's view. Not sure those FPS people would be so interested in their next superhero fix.)
Edit:
Btw, I do enjoy some fps but they really have to give me the atmospherics and exceptional storyline. That is generally a rarity. Most of them are shooting galeries with or without human opponents.
