does the game ever give the player control?
Like i'm playing the game, but the entire game is some random npcs i know nothing about just telling me exactly what to do, and trying to force my path and annoy me to doing it, and never letting the player have any agency, and constant cutscenes, i yet again have no logical reasons to care for.

the entire game stopped to show me a creeper kick a blaze rod into lava... "interesting the world is waking to the war" so the npcs you already established want to help fight are showing interest in helping fighting... what? this is already established why are you wasting my time?

followed by the combat is... lacking anything. its pretty much cinematic itself. ride into battle, have npcs fight and kill everything and maybe left click a couple times, rinse repeat, and hasnt shown any ability to complicate past that. like i get this game is supposed to be friendly to kids, but like i think kids are capable of giving orders past run forward or follow, why can't i tell specifically archers to stand by and target enemies? why are player attacks limited to identical sword swing. sure mine craft wasn't known for the best combat, but between several weapon options and at least some mechanical depth it wasn't this bad.

i guess my question is, does the game ever stop being cinematic? and let me play the game beyond being constantly hounded by the cutscene trio, as well as combat getting enough depth where i can't just scroll on my phone running it circles?

I am assuming you're asking because you want to refund in case it never stops. I've gotten to the point where it lets me play without telling me things constantly, the "cutscene trio", will still feed you information about what the Piglins are doing but that's it really. There are repeated cutscenes (like when a village is under attack) but you can enable a skip button in the options.

just to expand on this a little, i typed this entire thing while afking a fight after destroying the enemy spawners first, and just am left sitting and waiting the allied npcs to destroy stuff i can't even hurt myself.

yeah i'm not that close to the 2 hour mark yet, more like half hour for right now, but its not really looking good, so far. so part of it is do i even want to sit through the rest of my refund time.

this honestly feels like a worse dragon quest builders 2 to call up a similar game in relatively recent memory. except sadly that game is slightly less combat focused. with how legends is lacking any depth whatsoever for its "combat" i'm struggling to even call it combat.

What difficulty are you on?
Fox Apr 18, 2023 @ 4:41pm
Consider upping the difficulty for the rest of your refund time.

now call me a grade A dumbass for this one. but how? i've gone through the setting menu 5 times now trying to find a option and i'm not seeing it.

also the difficulty isnt like my biggest thing here, its the lack of depth. the game is, build tons of stone golems, target spawners, then theres no other enemies to do anything so you can afk take everything else out, actually you are forced to afk, because there is nothing the player is allowed to do at that point. since you cannot target structures. like unless the difficulty changes what the enemy has i don't think thats going to fix what i'm disliking, it'll help sure, but like pumping enemy stats won't fix this all that much. i dunno maybe i'm not part of the audience here.

Ah I see, yeah if you're looking for a more intense experience then I think this isn't for you, this game is more chill than anything from what I've played.

Difficulty makes enemies stronger but doesn't change enemy camps, you also get less Prismarine I think which is kind of ass.

I think it's more meant to be a chill game you play with your friends than a game you're supposed to tryhard on.

Then again I do have to say that while I find the gameplay loop is fun, the experience itself isn't exactly thrilling.

yeah i dunno, i wouldn't call what i want try harding per say, i think its more of like a scale and like try harding as i would consider it is more like e sport level playing.

where as i kinda just want more options for stuff to do, i suppose i think i would personally describe it as i want a bit more micro options. the game is as macro as it can be i think, i don't want it as micro as say dow2, but i do want some more.

also the building options seem fairly... limited compared to well, what i would expect from a game sharing the "minecraft" title with it. which is kinda surprising. i was hoping for something more like the room system from say dragon quest builders 2 (XD i keep bringing that game up here)

but yeah i mean thats likely correct that i want a bit more of a intense game. tbh yeah i was hoping for well a dragon quest builders esqe game perhaps i just saw the trailers and promo stuff with the wrong lens because of my personal want for that.

Yeah I mean tryharding more like, you need to be invested, that was crappy wording.

I see what you mean about micro options and I definitely agree, the game is heavily lacking in that department.

A lot of the time I'm just like "can we please get this over with" as I watch my units hit the structures.

To be honest, if it wasn't for the gameplay loop, I'd have refunded, it goes like this, spoilers just in case:

Piglins either attack a village or build an outpost
You defend that village or destroy the outpost
You get stronger
Rinse and repeat
And when you feel ready you progress

It's exactly the type of gameplay loop that gets me hooked personally.
I think the main issue with the game right now is that it's strategically shallow and it lacks room for mistake/improvement, it's just too hard to fail at something.
Fox Apr 18, 2023 @ 5:09pm
I think one way to make this more interesting (and it plays into the building aspect of minecraft too) would be to make it so that you have to build some kind of fort you need to defend from attackers while attacking a base, instead of every Piglin trying to attack your units, part of them would head to the spawners responsible for those units, and if those spawners are destroyed, you lose all your units, giving the Piglins time to repair, reset your progress to zero but don't delete you from existence, good way to tell you "get better" while also being fun. Basically you'd get to build your base exactly as you want it and you are required to defend it as you attack.

yeah the game for me, at least whats shown in the first 40 ish mins just isnt to shallow for my tastes, and looking at the building system it doesnt feel like theres enough there to keep me invested either.

which i mean thats fine, not every game is for everyone. i just wanted something with more depth.

i think you nailed it though with "I think the main issue with the game right now is that it's strategically shallow and it lacks room for mistake/improvement, it's just too hard to fail at something."

thats the best way to summarize my core problem with it.

I think it's better to refund right now and watch how the game improves, no point in playing if you don't like how it is at this point in time, waste of money if you know it's not worth it.

If you like the way it improves (that is to say, more depth, and whatever else you may want) then maybe you can give it another shot, would be glad to have you back if that happens, the more, the merrier.
