so wait, do you actually need ms account with any other MS games on steam? Thats kinda dumb if so, assuming any knows about the last game, if it required, would be the same.
Not all require an ms account

I'm hoping this does use a microsoft account so i can play cross platform with my xbox buddies.

"Minecraft Legends will also arrive on Xbox Game Pass. As a result, you may either opt to purchase the game from Steam or choose the Game Pass route. Remember, you will need to log in to your Microsoft account to enable crossplay. So, you will need to create an account if you don’t have one at the moment."

Taken from the Steam store page:

Requires 3rd-Party Account: A Microsoft Account is required to play Multiplayer (Co-Op and PvP), use the Marketplace, or access Lost Legends (Supports Linking to Steam Account)

Yes it’s optional

So you don't need MS account for singleplayer right? Just marketplace and multiplayer?
Cokefish Apr 14, 2023 @ 4:19pm
You're going to eventually need to start using a Microsoft account to start playing their games. The profits of platform-as-a-service far outweighs the buying power of folks who share your mentality.
Give me a source for that this service thing is not for everyone. Besides it’s fine if you prefer this service nonsense. And no you don’t need an account for the single player part if they release on steam….same for the halo campaign. I hope ms removes it in the future for the multiplayer part as well

What is the problem with needing a microsoft account
Mr Jt (Gog is king) Apr 14, 2023 @ 11:39pm
It’s additional drm that’s the problem
No only for online play

We'll see, but the more based option is just not to buy Xbox's games tbh. Some of the worst software I've used on Windows.
Do you mean their games are bad?

Unequivocally trash but that's not the main point. Microsoft Store apps (i.e. these games) have a fun habit of wrecking your computer's resources. Known memory leaks that haven't been fixed for years, terrible optimization leading to often low frames, and many games have limited options for graphics and accessibility like higher FOVs. That's BEFORE you get into the games which are either not fun, use predatory monetization practices, or both.

Halo (Infinite and MCC) and Sea of Thieves are a few examples.
you do realize microsoft is windows os right? that most pcs use, whose games? microsoft?, idk about infinite. but mcc and sot is fine and work fine. redatory monetization practices where?
