Attracting new critters
Hey everyone!

I just started playing today and I've been having a lot of fun. However, I am wondering how precise the amount of "shelter" and "foliage", etc. is when trying to create a habitat for a new critter? I've been hoping to get a rat habitat going, but even though I have "learned" about them after a number of visits to my garden, regardless of how many variations of 3x3 habitats I place with vegetables and shelter...I don't get any rats wanting to join the party.

Any advice? I may be doing something wrong, and I don't want to get discouraged by only having goldfish and bumblebees (which are great, I just want more!)

Thanks :)

i think they have to also be near a keeper as well. i put veggies surrounding 1 tile around a keeper cabin, added a sack for shelter, and just decorated around the area and a couple have moved in from that!

If you track the Rat in your journal and then use the habitat planner tool (the little paw symbol on your hotbar) it shows you how close to fulfilling each requirement you are. So you just need to experiment to find the right combo.

Once you've "Mastered" an animal, which is you've got enough of them in your garden, it then shows you the exact amount of each item needed.

Just a reminder when trying to create the rat habitat, the keeper's habitat actually takes up a 9x9 spot, so the rat habitat does not have to sit directly over the keeper's hut. This will give you more space to put in decorations to raise your rat habitat's desirability.
