To be fair, every gameplay thing in this game is completely free, the only monetization issues are with the cosmetics,
Warframe is probably the worst example of a F2P game ever, it's a skinnerbox disguised as a game where you pay with your time instead of with money, where other in other games getting a new weapon or gear is mostly from just playing the game, here you have to grind for materials which depending on the rarity can take hours or days, then grinding for the blueprints/parts which, again, depending on where you get said pieces, can take hours, THEN you have to wait 24 hours until the weapon is build only for it to THEN ask you to lvl it up which takes a considerable ammount of time if you don't know the farming methods/don't have the planets with the nodes open, then and only THEN you can actually start buildcrafting.. until you require forma, which you ALSO have to grind for, this is also completely simplifying how crafting works and putting it as the best, most optimal way of getting weapons, it seriously gets even WORSE once syndicate/faction grinding comes into play.
In any other looter shooter the second the weapon/gear drops to the floor and you grab it, it's ready to use.
You HAVE to treat Warframe as a second job if you eventually want to do anything fun with it, 100+ hours of timegating and inane grinding make it one of the LEAST recommendable F2P games in my book.
For all the monetization issues with this game, it's probably one of the most "fair" F2P games out there, a new player will have the exact same experience as someone who has paid 100s of dollars, even comparing it to it's mobile piers which are so stupidly p2w it's a miracle this game has thrived in such an enviroment.
The worst part is, you have to wait 24 hours per warframe part (unless you build all 3 parts together) and THEN wait 3 WHOLE DAYS UNTIL YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE IT
I have no issues with Grinding, i play the grindiest games out there, the biggest most blantant problem in my eyes regarding Warframe is that grinding is LITERALLY all the game has to offer, there's no real endgame as it's so piss easy even steel path can be breezed through with any frame and 80% of the armory, when you grind with no end in sight only for your reward to be more grinding, i find that a massive issue.
Warframe has lost a LOT of content over time though, Trials (Warframe version of raids), monthly events that pushed the story forward that happened between 2015 to 2018 (like explaining Alad Vs transformation into a infested, Vor's voyage into the void, the ENTIRETY of Tyl Regor and his tubemen storyline) Clan war (which was effectively a better conclave experience than what we have today), most of the old battlepass rewards (noras mix exist, i know, but it only happens every 6 months if the players are lucky and not ALL rewards come back), etc. the only reaso why people think Warframe has a lot of content that doesn't go away it's because the game is BLOATED with terrible content islands that deviate from what makes the game fun, the core gameplay, 90% of the playerbase sticks to level farming in sedna and showcasing their horrible "fashion" in whatever relay is popular that week.
There's a reason as to why Destiny has double the playerbase of Warframe, and im not saying it's because of the game being better (as a LOT of the Warframe community just LOVES to compare them) but because the grind on that game is fun, you are always chasing a good roll for a weapon you like and the endgame (being raids and trials) are the most rewarding thing you can accomplish and you WILL need your best gear if you want to conquer the master versions of them, it's not a perfect game at all, i despise it's monetization, the content vaulting and the outrageous FOMO, but there is literally nothing else in the market that even comes close to the quality it offers in general.
I say all of this as someone who has played Warframe for over 6000+ hours and just recently dropped it because of how BAD the new war campaign was, Warframe is a skinnerbox disguised as a game and designed to waste as much of the players time as possible so they can say their user engagement is high.
And just a little disclaimer though, i don't mind nor care if you enjoy the game or anyone else does, if you like it more power to you, beneath all the negatives there is a great core as the game is still kicking after all these years (if even less so than in it's golden years) but i would NEVER recommend it to anyone and i really don't like the whole "Warframe is F2P done right!" angle that is being pushed when in reality is everything but.
Sounds like someone just likes to spend money and get what they want immediately through minimal effort and hates the journey with friends these F2P games offer...Notice how I don't deter anyone from Farlight in these posts, rather warn them of the transaction bearing content. If you don't enjoy the completely free grind that free to play games offer and the journey is sets out with friends, then that's your opinion. I personally think that asking a fee for a battle pass that has a limited completion window(most do), but to just unlock TRIAL TIME ITEMS on the premium track and then telling people "oh well" when the pass period ends when you grinded an ungodly amount and only made it to tier 60~70 tops is ABSURD especially when the timed trial items on the premium track expire from your in-game inventory and you realize you grinded for a preview of what MONEY can buy.
I think apart from trial items BP is fine-ish. It is extremely grindy though that's for sure. Played more than 80 matches probably and i'm at like what? 39 or 40 or something.
Also there is the fact that you can get pretty good cosmetics outside of BP. From events and ranked mode and then there is the lootbox that costs 5k coins or something (even though i hate lootboxes)
PS just started playing this game last week S8 and immediately drawn by the skins and gameplay xD
But what should I do if I'm a new player and I've only been playing for two weeks (I'm on Battle Pass level 55)?.. For $20 I can buy a good game on Steam. I'm not ready to spend that kind of money on a game whose developers focus on cosmetic items, and not on fixing bugs.
