The Reason it's 60fps
Edit: I actually found a direct quote from Motiga about the 60fps from 7 years ago. Yes, it was a hot topic even back then.

I'm mainly posting this so people unfamiliar with Gigantic have some insight into why things are they way they are.

First of all, it's not a remaster.
Its the same game as it was in 2017 with some small, new things. The whole profile leveling and fortune system is new, UI is new, Rampage mode is new, role queue is new, and there's a few "new" characters that were planned for the original but never were released. That's about it. Even the skins are the same.

As to why it's 60 fps
The most likely reason is that the codebase for this game is almost assuredly a hot mess; for reasons I'll get into. So I'm not surprised there isn't much in ways of "improvements" to the actual game over the original; and depending how much of a mess, it could mean re-coding nearly the entire game.

Why it's a hot mess - Gigantic's history
So, a little history lesson is in order here. Gigantic was developed by a company called Motiga. At first, Gigantic was supposed to be a Windows Store exclusive, and was more of a dungeon crawler with PvP elements, where you'd fight through a dungeon then battle the enemy team at the middle or something. But somewhere along the line internal playtests found the dungeon part was boring and people just wanted the PvP. So the game switched directions and dropped the dungeon part altogether.

Too much time in the oven
This ballooned the costs and dev time dramatically. During this time Gigantic was supposedly re-designed many times over. So much so, that the original exclusive deal with Microsoft fell through somehow, and Motiga got more money from other investors, Perfect World being one of them. Long story short, they spread themselves thin to get investment from whoever they could, and even then managed to completely run out of money before the release date. There was an interesting, and quite sad, article about how they had to lay off nearly all the developers, and the game was finished in the last few months by the most passionate devs working on it for free.

Also because of all their exclusivity deals, the playerbase was fractured and nothing was crossplay. Console had its own playerbase, Steam had its own, Windows Store its own, and the Perfect World launcher thing had it's own. Yeah, it wasn't good.

So when Gigantic finally did launch, it was already doomed.

And that's why the codebase is almost assuredly a hot mess. Keep in mind they had to develop, or at the very least account for, 4 different versions of Gigantic. One for each playerbase, because none of it was crossplay. I know for a fact from being on the old community Discord that Wu's code especially (the kung-fu frog guy) is a nightmare because of how his "combos" were supposed to string together.

So no one played it, right?
Despite all that though, Gigantic actually didn't do badly. It still had players at the time of shutdown. It's just that Motiga were so far in debt that nothing short of Overwatch levels of success was going to save it, and let's be real, there's no way that was ever going to happen.

So that's why Motiga went under and the game shut down. A pretty good game that didn't get it's fair chance. It's a miracle it's even coming back at all. There's no way they expect a profit from this, so this has to be a passion project during downtime from some of the devs or something.

tldr; the codebase is most likely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ because of Gigantic's troubled development, and fixing things like the fps cap would probably take a lot more work than a 2017, $15, no microtransaction MOBA is worth. Its just a cheap nostalga game to enjoy for a little while, not expected to be the next big thing.

It's not even 60 fps though. It's capped at like 57-58 fps.

It was 62-63 in the throw back events, but they lowered it to 58 - 60 with this release.

There's a good dose of knowledge in here. It boggles my mind that people are treating this like it's a new release or some second shot at the spotlight. They're barking up the wrong tree.

Rampage Edition is fan service. If they were never a fan, they shouldn't buy it. They're proving idiocy by being a mindless consumer, by buying whatever Steam puts on their plate. Rampage Edition is basically bringing back an old game that couldn't be played anymore, for those who want to play it. That's all it is. It's fan service. (or you could say they're doing their duty to media preservation.)

if it would be consistent 60FPS, nobody would complain, but for some reason it just performs very odd.

i wouldnt say its "fan service" but more of a fast cash grab to get some money out of the IP that otherwise would go to waste. Just get a good chunk of money let some fans have a good time for a month or two and make other games at least thats how i see it. OFC i could be wrong and they update to a new engine, build in new things, give more content bla bla bla but realisticly its arc and its done. we will get ranked mode in some weeks and then we just wait for the server shutdown announcement later this year

Thats just stupid, im sure its true but stupid non the less.
There are so many old UE3 shooters with non of these problems.

You can uncap your FPS.
I was playing an online match at 240fps with 0 issues.

i've been playing with 240+ aswell, but there are desync issues.
i've seen the difference it makes, atleast it did for me when it comes to ranged champions

G-Sync + V-Sync at 240 frames.
I had 0 issues in the 1 match I played but, idk if I'm going to play more because ranked isn't out yet so.

If you uncap your fps, you should really recap it at 120. At that level, desync is much less noticeable/non-existent.
