Its kinda how I see the fallout 76 community. I think that game is a low tier microtransaction cash out with zero soul, but the community that plays it seems to be (in general) a wholesome group of people, no reason to mess with people having a good time.
Because unlike Fallout, this is a good game that was executed extremely poorly. We've been done a disservice and pretending that it's perfect so more people drop money on it to hopefully keep it alive is delusional. What sickens me is the that delusional fervor.
But I also believe that the skeleton crew that is working on gigantic is enough to keep the game alive for a long time (like overwatch before it got bad) and that said skeleton crew is genuinely working on fixing those changes pretty darn soon as evidenced how they already fixed a few of the... very bad flaws and addressed the others.
I can see that boycotting such practices from the studios can and would lead to changes in the gradual state of games. I think gigantic is on *my* good side for now though. I am willing to test out the paid model. I did indeed unlock character and the cosmetics I wanted in like 3 hours, I honestly don't know if the model will work for the studio overall and my honest bet is that gigantic probably will just end up with a small dedicated playerbase.
I do think lack of hype kills such games though. I have seen it in games like battleborn and realm royale where clear effort (esp more on the battleborn side) was placed into the worldbuilding and character design which feels wasted in ways that could have been fixed had people not been so critical of the games in their early stages. Maybe not everybody pulled their weight in the development of those games (looking at you balance team and bugtesters), but I think we underappreciated the incredible effort of the other members and how easily the game could have been salvaged should we waited just a little bit longer or not lead a hate train.
But well. how else will the corps listen right? Its a rough balance. Maybe my standards are low.
So what exactly are you upset about if the community and devs readily admit that the issues exist and they're trying to address them? It's not white knighting to say that the game has obvious jank, but is still really fun.
It means new players are coming, they did a round of sponserships
I mean, in OP's case, I think I have a guess.
Some of the whiners are right that this is, in a sense, a beta, because this is not a company with sufficient resources to test the game with the thousands of testers over thousands of hours prior to launch, they just had to launch and figure it out from there, and there's nothing wrong with that under circumstances where that is their only option.
