Except they keep forgetting the game has peer-to-peer. Custom matches don't require Arc Games servers to be running. It just requires people have the client. As long as people are playing that, there will be games.
And for anyone saying that it would never happen: Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 was released in 2011. It's still being played to this day, and was featured at EVO 2023. Why? Because the community, small and dedicated as it is, keeps it going. But for some reason, that kind of long-term survival could never happen for Gigantic, despite its community being dedicated enough to actually warrant the company dedicating resources to revive the game.
Microtransactions and live-service games have truly brain-rotted an entire generation of gamers.
